Description

Lucidly collects health readings while you are sleeping via the watch. The readings are evaluated using artificial intelligence to determine when you have entered rapid eye movement (REM) of your sleep cycle. When REM is detected, the watch will alert you by triggering tactile and or audible signals. The user can attempt to recognize the signal in their dreaming state, or wake up and attempt to reenter REM via any lucid dreaming induction method of choice. Lucidly is the first and only application that specifically targets this phase of the sleep cycle using health readings in combination with machine learning and haptic signaling. The application works well and supports WILD, WBTB, DEILD and DILD induction techniques, and is available in two operating modes: Inference (REM detection and alerts), and hypnagogic (periodic haptics for sleep entry).

Lucidly integrates with Apple's health kit for functionality. User permission is required to read and write data. REM prediction is performed by neural networks while the application is in session and the user is asleep. Lucidly has an overall accuracy > 80%. REM inference is an approximation and results may vary. Familiarity and some experience with lucid dreaming induction techniques is recommended before subscribing.

Lucidly provides the following features:

- Real time REM prediction with auto shut-off tactile and audible signaling.
- REM stage determined by artificial neural networks (AI).
- Greater than 80% model accuracy.
- Two operating modes: Inference and hypnagogic. Modes can run in tandem or independently.
- Ability to adjust prediction thresholds, haptics, session and alert durations.
- Analytics and charts generated for each session with notification timestamps.
- Seamlessly integrates and displays Sleep App metrics.
- Ability to playback sessions and test different settings against REM detection models.
- No registration required to use the application.
- No personally identifying information is collected.
- Subscriptions are auto-renewable and can be cancelled any time.
- All plans include a FREE 7-day trial.

subscription model 👎🏻

The developer might find that a subscription model allows for a lower entry point into their technology, but I for one have too many of these siphoning off money on a monthly basis. Everything is a subscription. This might make sense for developers but it’s represents a death by thousand cuts to lots of users’ available funds, and at this point in the bleed, I’m just not willing to pay a monthly fee for a judiciously delivered vibration to my wrist.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for trying out the application and taking the time to provide a review. While we understand there is subscription fatigue, subscriptions can help lower the financial entry for many users. Our principal goal is to improve upon available solutions in the LD space, reduce financial entry of innovative technologies, and expand accessibility to this very unique and tremendous state of awareness. Your subscriptions directly helps us continue to develop and improve this product. Thank you once again for trying out the application, and we hope you reconsider your position on subscriptions. Please feel free to email our support link if you have any additional questions.

Want to like but it’s too buggy

I want to like this app so bad. I’m signed up for a subscription and everything, but it just doesn’t do what it says it does. The watch app and the phone app will not stay connected to each other. Once the watch dims the phone app will say that the watch app needs to be in the foreground. Well it is, but the screen on the watch is going to dim after a while, no matter what you have set in settings (it’s just how the watch works) and as soon as the screen dims the phone app loses connection like it can’t see the watch app anymore. I’ve restarted both devices multiple times and Bluetooth is definitely working, so I don’t know what else to do, but I’m definitely canceling my subscription until this works the way it’s supposed to. Update: uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the watch seems to have fixed the connection issue. However I still sometimes get an alert about it not being able to write to the health app and to check my Bluetooth. When this happens I have to restart my watch and it works again. Hopefully these bugs will get sorted out soon.

Second update: the developer response was useless. I’ve already done things the way he describes to do them and the apps will NOT stay connected. I’m not stupid and know how to follow instructions. Blaming the user for your app’s problems is not a good business strategy.

Developer Response ,

The Divine Sage, Lucidly requires both the iOS and watchOS applications to be visible at the same time on the devices in order enable certain operations. If the watch application dims, certain features cannot be activated, and the user will get the message “The watch app must be on the foreground.” The inability to start sessions when the watch application hides is not a bug, nor is it indicative of connection problems. Our initial response provided a suggestion for how to keep the watch application awake longer when starting sessions (max is 70s). Once a session is started, the watch application will dim and the session will continue. You may refer to our in-app support link for an explanation of this app specific requirement, and or feel free to email our support team if there are additional questions. We hope this clarifies current application functionality and intended user experience.

---

Thank you for the review and feedback. In order to start a session on Lucidly, both the iOS and Lucidly watch applications have to be on the foreground at the same time. When both applications (Watch and iOS) are on the foreground and in sync, a power button on the iOS application is enabled. At this point, you may begin by pressing the power button. If the Lucidly watch application goes into background before you start a session, the power button on the iOS application will be disabled, and you will receive the message “The watch app must be on the foreground”.

You may keep the Lucidly watch application on the foreground and awake for an extended period of time (70 seconds) by tapping on the watch screen while the application is on the foreground. Additionally, you may adjust the application wake duration by enabling in watch Settings > Display & Brightness > Wake Duration > Wake for 70 seconds.

Alerts related to inaccessible health data are typically a result of either not granting read and write access to health data to the application. If you are able to start a session and this message appears, please ensure you have granted health access to the application, and or attempt to start a new session.

Thank you for trying out the application, and again, we're sorry that you are experiencing connection issues.

Works well when you play with the setting!

I’ve been using this app for about 2 or so weeks now. At first I though it was straight trash. Then I played around with the haptic alarm length, delay, and used “theater mode” on my watch to prevent any accidental turn offs. It works wonderfully now!!

It definitely wakes me up mid dream during the latter part of my sleep cycle. This has improved dream recall significantly. I’ve still not had a lucid dream yet, but I do fee closer to that goal and I do feel this does accurately wake you up during REM cycles.

I’ve had no issues with exercise data being recorded as I saw in other reviews. Sleep recording on the Health app also seems to be entirely unaffected by using this app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for trying out the application. One of the goals is to expose as many controls as possible to end users, so that users can experiment and adjust settings as needed. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions, and or just to give us updates regarding your experience. We would be tremendously appreciative of any additional feedback or thoughts for improvements! Please keep an eye out for version 1.10.0 for even more controls and new features!
