Fun but could use improvement

Love this app and midi.

Would say, similar to how you sometimes teach people what finger pattern to use in the app and then reinforce with the colors, you should include those numbers on the screen along with the colors. Once you leave the video to start playing, it’s hard to remember the pattern and I find I have to keep replaying certain parts of the video to remember.

Also wouldn’t hurt to add more functionality when you own more than 1. When I connect both it mostly still makes me play on one...

Thanks for your great feedback and suggestions! The good news is we now display finger numbers for both songs and lessons in the app, which should help you get those finger patterns right

First Impressions

I ordered this awhile back when they were having a launch promotion and just finally opened everything today. I was so excited. I do have some previous piano and other instruments experience, but mostly at a beginner level. First I tried the classic Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and whatever version they have on there is NOT the traditional Twinkle that most folks know, which completely messed me up. Why have a song that people can’t check what they’re doing by ear? I’m used to looking up and not down at the keyboard when playing and the colours make that difficult and the set up gives a very bad feel for what the timing of the song is. Itsy Bitsy Spider was also abnormally difficult because I just can’t get down with the LUMI app format. I am saddened, disappointed, and I am pretty sure I regret this purchase. I would have been better off with a simple beginner piano book and the keyboard I already have and continuing to be able to better check my playing by ear versus looking at the keyboard and the colours. Just. Disappointing. And this was just day one. Going to look to see if I can return this because it’s not going to work for this beginner piano student that already knows the basics. Something to keep in mind if you are already a playing beginner and think that this may help you. It doesn’t mesh well with more traditional training methods, in my opinion.

Hi, we're very sorry to hear you're not enjoying your LUMI. Many of the playing views are indeed designed for those who would like to learn piano in a more visual way, with lights and colors. We understand that might not be for everyone. However most of our songs do also have an accompanying traditional sheet music view as well, so if you're more interested in traditional methods of learning there are options in the app.

How the mighty have fallen

I was one of the first kickstars of lumi keys hardware. When it was released I was super excited to introduce this to my kids and help them learn piano. The lumi app is full of their practice runs. I was aware of a subscription coming but I of course assumed it would be a subscription value add to existing offerings:
Oh how wrong I was.
Almost every existing lesson, existing song, even songs that my children have played multiple times are now locked behind a subscription paywall.
My plan was to subscribe so my children would have more content, but after seeing how the base app has become without a subscription I’ve changed my mind. At this point without the subscription the hardware is pretty useless and to me is predatory practice.
So I’m done with this thing, if I can find compatible software I’ll reconnect it and my kids will have fun again but there’s no way I am going to subscribe to a service just so you get the base base content back.
And to be clear, I understand the need of a subscription service. But as a person who literally kick started the hardware and was there from day one, I expected better. I have no issues subscribing for content but to put existing content behind a paywall to force a subscription is beyond the pale.
