Marginal is a private intellectual archive for readers, with a selective social layer for the people you trust.
Track the books you read. Write private structured notes called Thoughts against each one, in your own words, at your own pace. Then, when you choose to, share a Thought with a friend, deliberately and specifically, the way you would hand someone a book with a page dog-eared.
The name comes from marginalia, the notes readers have always made in the margins of their books. That space was always finite, so every word had to earn its place. Marginal carries that same discipline into the way you write: five kinds of Thoughts, called Ideas, each with its own word limit. Dialogue for your immediate reaction. Analysis for the language and ideas that caught you. Character Maps, Personal Connections, and Chapter Summaries for readers who want to go further.
Months or years later, Marginal asks you to look back. A Hindsight is a short reflection written after a book has settled, when you can see what actually stayed with you.
Marginal is not a review platform. There is no public feed, no follower count, no star ratings, and no algorithm deciding what anyone sees. Sharing is a deliberate, directed act: you choose exactly who sees a Thought, and nothing more is visible than what you choose to show.
This is not for people who read fifty books a year and want a leaderboard. It is for anyone who has ever finished a book and had something to say about it.

Premium unlocks all five Idea types, up to 50 friend connections, and custom Hindsight scheduling.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings at any time.
