Markdown is how we write now. Every README, every spec, every note handed to an AI. Marko is a markdown editor that treats it as a real document format rather than plain text with extra symbols. Marko gives you all three against the same file, and switching never rewrites your source. EXPORT WITHOUT THE SETUP PDF with real bookmarks and page breaks. Word, OpenDocument, EPUB, LaTeX, MediaWiki, HTML. The conversion engine ships inside the app — no separate download, no command line, no Homebrew, no setup step before your first export. The same formats import back. A print and export preview lets you set typography for the output independently of how you write — tighter line spacing for a PDF without touching your editor. DIAGRAMS AND MATH, RENDERED LIVE Mermaid diagrams render as you type. KaTeX handles inline and block equations. draw.io files round-trip in and out without losing fidelity. TABLES THAT BEHAVE A floating toolbar for structure, fit and fill width modes, header and zebra shading. Column widths are stored in a sidecar comment, so they survive a round-trip through other editors instead of collapsing. BUILT FOR LONG DOCUMENTS • Outline panel, file tree and open-files list • Find and replace, identical in all three modes • Source line numbers in every mode, measured against the markdown rather than the rendered blocks • Word, character and reading-time counts • Focus mode dims everything but the current block; typewriter mode keeps your line centred MAINTAINED, WHICH IS NOT A GIVEN HERE The free markdown editors on the Mac are mostly abandoned — the best-known ones last shipped a stable release in 2020 and 2022, with hundreds of open issues between them. The maintained alternatives are either note-taking systems that want to own your whole library, or writing tools that treat tables and diagrams as an afterthought. Marko is none of those. It is a document editor, actively developed, that opens a file and closes it again without asking you to adopt a system. YOUR FILES STAY YOURS Marko reads and writes ordinary markdown files on your Mac. No account, no sync service, no cloud. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting of any kind — the app makes no automatic network requests at all. Your documents never leave your machine.

Fixes a hang when opening an image from the file tree. Images now open in a viewer instead of being loaded as text. New: Paste as Clean Markdown (Shift-Command-V) tidies markdown pasted from a chat window. It unwraps the code fence, fixes bullets, and removes the invisible characters that break formatting.
