Description

melod is a classic music/rhythm game that lets you play great songs by a wide variety of indie artists—discover new music and chase high scores!

There are two types of instrumentals to play: "Melody" and "Rhythm"! Be warned: "Rhythm" mode adds a fifth "bass pedal" note that drastically increases the level of difficulty. Charts reflect the notes of the song, and your part drops if you miss notes. Explore the inner machinations of the music in the game!

You can play the game on "Chill" or on "Challenge" mode. "Chill" gives an easier, relaxing experience, while "challenge" gives the full experience, pushing your music-gaming skills as far as they can go.

Along with the free experience, you can also purchase a "melodx" subscription, which gives you access to a selection of playable songs that will develop over time. Other songs can be purchased individually.

Challenging, but in a good way

This is one of my favorite games on my phone. Some of the music is very good, I wish I could find it elsewhere! I like the idea of having no ads, I wish other games did that too. I also like how this is promoting smaller music artists and their songs. Don’t get me wrong, at some parts the game is challenging! But that is needed or else it could possibly get too boring. I like the way this game handles in-app purchases— you can pay a subscription for 2 dollars a month to get themes which can change the way your game feels, or you can purchase a few songs that add extra to the game! I have one suggestion though, maybe you could add the option to buy a single theme each for a dollar or two? I would buy the subscription, but I don’t like having constant payments being due. If I could just pay some money all at once to access all of them or pay smaller fees for individual themes that would be great. Other than that, melod is a great game I really recommend getting!

Lovely game, some rules can be confusing

First off, love this game. I love the songs and the fact that a lot of the music is from indie artists, really awesome. I think this is my favourite rhythm game that I’ve ever played, I’m very happy that I am able to calibrate it to work for me, and the design is sleek and pleasant to look at.

There is one small thing that prevents me from calling the game perfect, and perhaps it’s a matter of preference, but I find that the slide notes are slightly visually confusing. I am often unsure what regular notes I can swipe into the slide-notes, and whether I can swipe from a slide-note into a regular note. I think if there was a different visual cue, a trail or stripe connecting notes that can be swiped, it would add a nice level of cohesion for people like me who need slightly more visual variety to differentiate mechanics in a game like this.

Again, it’s a small thing and it doesn’t ruin the game at all!

Slide notes work similar similar to HOPOs in arcade-style guitar games. You can slide into a slide note if you have an active streak going. If you break your steak, you must re-tap.

Fun for anyone

MeloD is such a fun game. I’m excited to see future songs. I feel the selection is small so far, however they range in difficulty is pretty accurate! I would love to see some new songs added. I especially love that some heavier music was added. This game is great for people of all ages, if they can keep up haha!

Features I would like to see: new songs, less sensitive notes or adjustments to the calibration, memberships at a set price instead of monthly, and a feature that can allow to you slow down a section so you can practice it as much as you need.

Features that I love: user friendly interface, clear and accurate ratings for song difficulty, clear that the notes are playing to the song (and at the right time), interesting and unique genres, and the ability to change the difficulty in settings.

I haven’t tried out the memebership yet but I love that you can change the theme of the notes. I downloaded some of the free songs to help me unlock enough stars to get the most difficult songs. Although some of the songs don’t relate to me or what I enjoy, I felt the selection was interesting and introduced me to some new genres of music that I do actually like.

Thank you for the review! I’m glad you like the game, and I appreciate the suggestions. I am intending to continue adding songs to the game so long as there is sufficient interest to keep the game going. I want to ensure a wide selection of new music, and I have a couple songs in the queue from artists already in the game to allow people to play more songs by then. While the membership is monthly, nearly all the songs added to the game can be bought as one-offs without any recurring costs.
