The things you love change so slowly you never catch it happening. Keep one photograph, take it again, and watch a moment become a record of years.
The moments that matter most are the small ones, and they are the ones we never think to photograph twice.
Your dog asleep in her spot in the yard. Your daughter in the doorway, back when the doorframe was still taller than she was. The tree you planted the spring you moved in. You take the picture without thinking, because you love them — and then the years go by so gently that you never quite catch the changing as it happens.
Memnto is a way of keeping those moments — a memento you keep adding to, rather than one photograph you'll come across again someday. Something you return to, until you can finally see the years that passed in between.
Choose a photograph you love, and Memnto helps you find your way back to it: how far you are from where it was taken, which way to turn, the lens it was shot on. It lays a faint ghost of the old picture over your camera so you can line the two up with your own eye. Hold your finger down to bring the old one fully back for a moment. Then take it again.
From then on it keeps them together for you. Each moment becomes a timeline of itself, every frame remembering how long it waited — eight years later, the following spring, moments later. The puppy becomes the dog. The sapling becomes the tree that shades the whole yard. The things you love, changing, somewhere you can finally watch it happen.
You don't need an old photograph to begin, either. Start one today — this, exactly as it is now — and come back to it whenever you think of it.
When you want to hold a moment in your hands, make a keepsake: the old photograph resting against the new one, or the whole timeline gathered onto a single page. Put the date on it, or the place, or whatever you would say about it, and send it to the people who remember it with you.
And it stays yours. No account, and no server of ours. Your moments sync quietly through your own private iCloud, every frame is saved into a Memnto album in your Photos, and nothing you make is ever sent to us.
Start one today. The rest of it takes years — and that, really, is the whole point.
