Learn and practice the memory strategies used by elite mentalists for decades: the major system and the method of loci (memory palaces).
Memory Mill teaches the user battle-tested memory strategies and provides the tools to make practice interesting and fun.
The Major System: the technique memory athletes use to remember any string of numbers by turning digits into pictures and pictures into stories.
The Method of Loci: also known as memory palaces, an all purpose tool that can be used to store vast quantities of arbitrary information.
Memory Mill guides you through learning and mastering both systems. You learn it one milestone at a time, and a windmill grows as you do.
• The ten sounds. Each digit gets a consonant sound: 1 is T, 2 is N, 4 is R. Short quizzes make them stick.
• Once you know each digit sound you pair them up to form words.
• Know all 100 pairs. Every number from 00 to 99 becomes one word you can see: 42 is RAIN, 69 is SHIP, 17 is TACK. The app brings in new pairs, reviews them just before you'd forget, and drills the ones you mix up or answer slowly.
• The final test. All 100 pairs, translated both ways, against the clock. To use the Major System in real life you need to be fast, almost automatic. Then retake the final test in Breeze, Gale or Hurricane, each "condition" faster and less forgiving than the prior. Getting through Hurricane mode is a truly difficult challenge.
• Your palace. Walk a route through the meadow and leave a picture at each stop, then build a palace from a place you know by heart, and walk it again the next day with nothing in front of you.
• Games. Party tricks built on what you learned: crack a safe along your palace, take a table's orders with no notepad, remember an impossibly long number through a wait, remember an every growing list of phone numbers, and more. The games are integrated with your memory palaces to help you practice your specific palaces as you play.
• A trophy room for everything you've earned.
