Fog tracker, live webcams, and coast-versus-inland temperatures for the whole Bay Area. The marine layer at a glance, refreshed every five minutes.
San Francisco doesn't have weather: it has microclimates, and a forecast for "San Francisco" is wrong somewhere in the city almost every day of the year.
Microclimates shows you the difference and backs it up with raw data that you can see yourself. Per-neighborhood fog and weather, plus live and historical fog views. And the best signal you can get: webcams showing just about every angle of the Bay.
RIGHT NOW
One screen that answers the only question that matters before you leave the house: how much colder is the coast, is the fog holding or burning off, and which neighborhoods are socked in. Written out in sentences, not a wall of numbers.
FOG TRACKER
GOES-18 satellite imagery of the Bay Area, refreshed every five minutes and archived so you can scrub back through the last two hours, the last day, or the last week. Night microphysics after dark, so the fog is visible at 3am.
WEBCAMS
Around thirty live cameras — Mt. Tam, the bridges, the beaches, the coast — stacked one to a screen so you can actually see them.
WEATHER
Coast and inland seven-day forecasts side by side, live wind gusts, and the onshore flow that decides which one you get.
NEIGHBORHOODS
Every San Francisco neighborhood on one map, colored by temperature, cloud cover, humidity, wind, or dew point. Tap one for its current conditions.
WIDGET
Coast and inland temperatures, the fog percentage, and where it is heading — on the home screen or the lock screen.
No account. No advertising. No analytics. Nothing is collected about you, because there is nothing to collect it with.
Data from NOAA GOES-18, the National Weather Service, and public webcam feeds. Microclimates is not affiliated with any of them.
The Right Now screen now carries more of what the website's front page does:
• The latest GOES-18 satellite frame, with the coastline traced over it. Tap it for the full fog tracker.
• A look down on the marine layer from the Mt Tam East lookout, refreshed every minute.
• Cloud-cover bars for the hours ahead in each neighborhood, and drive distances for the spots across the bridges.
• Cloud base, fog top, thickness and satellite brightness behind the read.
• The nearest place that is out of the fog, when there is one.
