Minimalist Password Manager 4+

Spectacular update. Not sure what else to say…

Man I can't believe the development cycle this app is going through right now. I wrote a glowing review like a week ago, and now here I am again lol.

This update brings something I've been wanting since the beginning: an "Archived" section. This is super important for me because I've got stuff I can't get rid of that just clutters up my general list, but even worse, pops up when I'm autofilling on a website. Well that's now taken care of. Implementation is well thought out and seamless.

The second HUGE update is a full-blown password generator. This thing is NUTS and is hands down better than the 1Pass generator. It has all the features from that app PLUS some tasty extras.

I've been using Minimalist for months (it replaced 1Pass when I finally reached the end of the rope with AgileBits). It was a solid but stripped down app back then so I didn't talk to anyone about it. But then it got better. And better. And better. So I started recommending to certain friends and family. I still didn't recommend it to *everyone* since it still had some rough edges (albeit very soft rough edges but still). With this update I'm gonna start recommending it to everyone. And I can finally say something I've been champing at the bit to say since I first made the switch:

Minimalist is better than 1pass. Full stop. It's better in every way and I believe it's the best password manager out there, period.

Lovely

I’ve been looking for an alternative for 1password for a while and found this app. I put off purchasing the one time purchase of this app because I’ve lost count of the times an app has promised their one time fee is forever, until magically it isn’t honored and needs a subscription to continue. So I patiently waited for a sale of any kind, only to find on Black Friday the price went from $60 to $100. I have no choice but to purchase now because if a company can raise their prices on a holiday where everything is on sale, surely it’s only a matter of time before they raise the price again to $150 or higher.

Edit: what a disingenuous piece of work the developer is. Literally less than a week after my review they removed the “lifetime purchase” feature, the timing is almost too coincidental to be anything other than spite. They removed a feature purely to spite one anonymous reviewer, is that the kind of company you want in charge of your passwords? The most laughable part is they also removed one of the preview photos of the app across all platforms saying how they understand people hate subscriptions and promise there’s always going to be the ability to lifetime purchase the app. I think I’ll just go back to msecure now, the subscription is cheaper and the developers aren’t snakes and actually understand the meaning of the word “integrity” that this dev is so proud of calling himself.

Thanks for reaching out and please accept our apologies. It was not our intention to make anyone upset. We are simply transitioning to a more sustainable business model which will allow us to maintain, improve, and support Minimalist going into the future.

Unfortunately this means we can no longer offer a One-Time Purchase. It is, and always was, a completely unsustainable business model. We were hoping we could make it work through increased pricing, but we received feedback that it was just too much money to spend all at once. We felt the same way.

Given that we intend to maintain, improve, and support Minimalist indefinitely, we had no choice but to transition to the only sustainable business model available to developers in the App Store... subscriptions.

We fully understand people are not happy about the industry’s transition to subscriptions. In fact, as consumers, we weren’t happy about it at first either. However now that we’re on the developer side of the equation, and it’s our job to keep the business alive, we see the other side of the coin.

I know this was not the response you were looking for, but hopefully it helps anyhow.

Amazing app, amazing developer!

Was a 1Password user for eons before I decided I had enough of the subscriptions and how bloated it was getting with features I never use, so I went on a quest to try all the alternatives. On PC, I've always used KeePass, but even the best of the KeePass macOS apps are still klunky and confusing. Then I came across Minimalist and I had that "THIS IS IT!" moment... I wanted something no-frills, super clean and simple and this app hits all those marks... it feels like if Apple had made a front end for Keychain, this is what it would look and behave like, and that's a huge bonus. The sync is ridiculously fast and rock solid, the developer quickly adds new features users ask for and he's a super nice, helpful and humble guy to boot... and then, of course, the icing on the cake was a one-time forever purchase (but there is a subscription option for those who want it)... couldn't be happier with this app! Thank you Jeffrey for all your hard work and releasing this for others to enjoy and use!
