Biblical teaching jewels explained for the common person
I was surprised to find a free and easy to navigate collection of MLJ sermons. While I would greatly read the transcripts if available here, I settled for purchasing his books that are edited sermon collections. I wouldn’t even mind paying for access to transcripts just because listening is difficult personally and I have more ability to read than to follow through listening.
He clearly and logically explains his biblical text, using care, step by step advice with gentleness and firmness when needed just like the appreciated bedside manner of an expert skilled doctors hi is diagnosing and educating you on what is going on and what my part is all about in the situation. He takes the time to lead my mind, heart and will through the text and practically explain so that I can not only understand but begin to put the changes in my mind and life into practice.
I am also eternally grateful because I live in an area where there is anemic preaching at best and I am desperate for biblical teaching soaked in doctrine coupled with the prescription of how it does and should transform my relationship with Christ. He is my pastor separated by time and distance but the tool the Holy Spirit has used to grow my heart mind and soul into all that God has planned in me. I can be just me, temperament and not some expert and glean massive amounts of God’s truth and plan.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
His sermons on the Baptism of the Holy are the best I have ever heard. His exegesis is genius. There are many great biblical expositors who can break down the verses on the Holy Spirit who don’t know anything about His presence. He is a person to be known not a doctrine. He is not just a proposition to be analyzed for a sermon. We can know facts about God. Know certain propositions without experiencing the love of Christ. Most good preachers have never experienced the manifestation of Gods love to the soul. When the Holy Spirit comes to you and bares witness with your spirit He sheds His love abroad in your heart. It’s a foretaste of heaven to have the love of Christ come down upon you like a rushing wind in wave upon wave of love. It’s unspeakable joy. The love of Christ that surpasses knowledge! He comes to us and shows us His glory. The sweet love of Jesus Christ! Every person needs to honestly listen to these sermons. The Holy Spirit has been forgotten we need a revival. The church needs power. Listen to these sermons.
The true example of an Expositor was Dr. MLJ
Dr. Jones was the very tool used by God in shaping the resurgence of expository preaching. He was an example of preaching, because for many reasons which would take some time to write, one in which I wish to present is the timeless nature that comes from it. For preaching to be preaching, it’s going to be timeless, and Dr. Jones was that, “a timeless teacher.”
I am a landscaper, and so much of his series in Romans chapter 1 has been listened to at work while I’m doing my typical duties. By God’s providence it keeps my mind set on having a high view of scripture, which leads to a higher view of God. Every person should be listening to this man. He was so set on communicating Christ’s person and work before his hearers. He would continually point his congregation to Christ to have their minds gripped by His centrality in scripture, and since his preaching is timeless, it still points some back to Christ to see the very same, and I am a product of experiencing just that.
Dr. Jones did believe in scriptural sufficiency, because He believed in scriptural inerrancy, and so therefore, when I listen to him, I am reminded on those two verses in 2nd timothy 3:16-17
16“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
