Not bad but needs some updates
I have a WiFi generac generator and I can check the status of it through the app. However, there are a few issues. 1) there is a delay in the status change on the generator and what is shown on the app. 2) the app is buggy and crashes often on iOS 12. 3) the push notifications don’t work even though I have them turned on. I still get alerts via email but would really like push notifications. 4) the app hasn’t been updated for the newer screens on the iPhone X, XS. This might seem like a small thing but it feels out of date as soon as you open the app when there is large areas of black on the top and bottom of the app.
If some of these issues are fixed/updated I would rate the app higher.
This app was one of the biggest selling points and a total disappointment
Splurging out on something like a generac generator isn’t an easy decision for most people. I was thoroughly disappointed that the app is so buggy it can’t even refresh its status without either crashing or just freezing. Very basic information with or without subscription. The app is six years old and it’s still fitted to older iPhones with smaller screens. Would love to see key information such as power consumption which would be extremely helpful to know how much of the generators capacity is being used while using different appliances in the house. Statistical data such as power used, days protected, diagnostics. I’ve seen better apps developed by young children studying computer programming and had high hopes for a company of generac’s scale. Hoping to see it improve drastically and to be up to date with its rivals.
Most disappointing app I’ve ever installed
I recently invested a substantial amount of money to have a 22kW backup generator installed. The WiFi feature of this model was a selling point, but this app just tells me if the generator is running (I can already hear that it is) and for how long it has been running. At the very least I was hoping I could remotely turn it on and off, and ideally have the ability to set up a schedule where it would turn on an off at particular times. It doesn’t seem too much to even expect that I should be able to have it turn on in response to a smart thermometer that shows that the fridge temperature has reached 40 degrees. This app seems to be the result of some product person at Generac saying “hey, we should make this WiFi compatible and write a smart phone app!” and then they spent an afternoon writing something without realizing the possibilities.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
