MochiKanji - Learn Japanese 4+

This is a spaced repetition style learning app, where you have choices about how the vocabulary is organized. It’s grouped into themes, into N? levels, etc. The memory quizzes are short (anywhere from 1-8 words unless you put off doing them. Then they can add up,) and they are unevenly spaced throughout the day (though it does tell you when the next quiz will be.)

I found that I actually enjoyed the gentle game-ification (moving words up levels of fluency) and looked forward to the next quiz. I would NOT use this as my only app for learning Japanese, but it would pair well with WaniKani (for Kanji),DuoLingo, Memrise, or other Japanese language app. It’s probably helpful to combine use of maybe 3 different style learning apps if you’re serious about learning.

The app works well and does a good job at helping you remember kanji/ Japanese words. But one thing I find absolutely annoying is how you’re not allowed to set a “maximum cap” on the words you learn during golden time sometimes it gives you 1 word, other times it gives you 47 it would be nice if you set an amount you’re comfortable with doing every golden hour because when you have 40+ words to review it makes it difficult to remember the words you just learned. it would also be nice if you could set a range of times to where it wouldn’t add words to golden time like when you’re sleeping. It’s quite annoying when you wake up in the morning and see you have 60+ words to review because the timer never stops. I will give it a 5 star rating if/when those features are applied.

UPDATE: Downgraded to 2 stars because it gave me 104 words to review as I woke up this morning. A Completely unacceptable and absurd amount of words to review. This is supposed to be a teaching app right? All that does is make me frustrated and discouraged.

I connecting this morning only to find my account logged and locked out. I tried logging back in and getting a passcode reset all to no avail. I contacted their support via the link they provided through Facebook messenger. I know others have commented on this, but it is very true that they need to get some kind of support email address or helpdesk service rather than just Facebook messenger. I don’t know what the problem is, but it’s very frustrating considering that I’ve had this app for less than a month and this happened. I also have the premium account too, which makes it even more frustrating.

Update: Developer responded after about roughly eight hours and fixed the issue. No explanation was given so not sure what happened. I guess I’ll just hope it doesn’t happen again?
