Description

Please note that EMA can only be used in conjunction with a subscription-based Web Application Service. Modernizing Medicine introduces the first native iPad application designed for medical surgical specialities — EMA by Modernizing medicine for iPad. Each relevant part of the visit can be recorded in real time by the patients in the waiting room and by the medical assistants, physician extenders, or physicians in the exam room. At the end of each patient visit, data is transmitted back to the server automating documentation without costing the doctor a second.

So much potential

EMA is great for day to day patient visit. It’s horrible, absolutely horrible when it comes to results (biopsies, excisions and other procedures) followup. It’s hard to imagine how bad it is. We were misinformed prior to purchasing EMA reg it’s abilities to follow up results. The result log is so bad and poorly design that it takes an extra full time employee for each medical provider to simply keep up with it. We had another digital biopsy log before , very simple but so much better. I don’t think it would take EMA that much to improve their biopsy log. It’s such a shame because if EMA just improved the biopsy log , the software would be fantastic — there are so many cool things about this EMR. PLEASE CONSIDER WORKING ONTHAT PART OF SOFTWARE.

Words escape me…

It is hard to put into words what a total time sink this EMR represents. Having worked with EMR’s since 2005 on multiple platform, I think the description that this is a “slow motion train wreck running into a dumpster fire” only partially captures the effect this software has on a providers efficiency. If you like wasting 1-2 hours per day babysitting software, this is the application for you. Don’t let the flashy marketing materials fool you, there is no substance. Not a day goes by without my wondering whether the software developers really have this much disrespect for a healthcare providers time. Prepare to memorize ICD-10, because you can no longer rely on your EMR to search for codes. Get a multi monitor system because you will need to have an ICD10 search site up on another monitor to move your day forward. (The developers of this software do not care to bother with providing Soundex search capability. ). If you write a prescription, do not expect the SIG and DISP to flow through to the med list - you have to enter that in different fields because the developers cannot figure out how to capture that in the med list. Expect hot-patches to fix the bugs in each release - the development process is broken. In short - do not waste your time, do not waste your money, do not risk your practice…. Consider other alternatives.

Hate it

1) it is nice to have eRx ability and ability to pull up patient information, which is the case for any EHR I think, but other than that this thing is horrible. I would give zero if I could.

2) things that are supposed to be “sticky” (pulled forward from prior notes, I.e. sutures you use every time, etc) DO NOT work. I use the same sutures 90% of the time and still have to scroll through a list and choose same thing over and over now nearly 10 years later). Likewise for surgery templates. When I first got this system, I typed up all of my surgery templates to be the way I wanted them and poof they were gone.

3) it is so slow. I often find myself wondering if I just didn’t hit the button on iPad hard enough because nothing is happening.

4) monthly fee is automatically withdrawn from bank. I got several notifications of travel expenses recently for in person training to the tune of several thousand dollars that was in the process of being withdrawn from my bank. I called and told them we’ve been using their system for several years and have not had any recent in person training and that this must be a mistake. I demanded to speak to someone, but was told that department didn’t take calls. They gave me a case number. I blocked these transfers from my bank and I have not heard a word from them now ~2 months later, but still get bills for these travel expenses for what must be someone else’s practice.

5) I could go on but I won’t.
