Description

mood.camera is a point-and-shoot camera that captures natural photos with authentic film character, straight out of your iPhone. Using a custom image processing pipeline, the app recreates the look and feel of film, with high quality colour emulation, realistic film grain and subtle analog characteristics.

As well as recreating the look of film, mood.camera also takes inspiration from the experience of instant film cameras. There is no live ‘filter’ preview and no editing tools within the app, letting you focus on capturing the moment instead of flipping between effects.

“The authenticity of the format emulations are top notch. Not being able to upload pictures really challenges me to be a better photographer and think about the shot before I take it, instead of just shooting away on my camera app normally.” - Joaquin Cavazos, director of photography.

TRY FOR 7 DAYS FREE
Please note, mood.camera is not free. We offer a 7-day unrestricted free trial for new users. After your trial you can continue to use the app for free but you will be limited to the “random” emulation mode. To continue using the full version of the app after your trial period you can either purchase a life time membership or pay a monthly subscription.

EXPRESSIVE COLOUR EMULATION
Each of the 14 colour emulations have been meticulously crafted to give every photo character and a rich colour palette.

REALISTIC FILM GRAIN
Film grain algorithms modelled on the physical development process, add texture and physicality to your photos whilst retaining detail.

ANALOG CHARACTER
Chromatic aberration, halation and bloom, inject another layer of depth to your pictures.

LESS TWEAKING, MORE SNAPPING
Mirroring the classic film camera experience, there is no live preview of your selected film, letting you focus on capturing the moment instead of flipping between filters. After each capture, the element of suspense as you reveal the processed photo is another nod to the analog experience.

INTUITIVE CONTROLS FOR CREATIVITY
At its core, mood.camera is designed to echo the ease of use of a point-and-shoot camera but retains some controls to inspire creativity and personal expression:
- Adjust the grain and tone for each film emulation to match your style.
- Set the default focal lengths for each lens, giving you quick access to your favourites.
- An on-screen exposure dial, makes it easy to achieve different styles with under and over exposed images.
- Select from multiple aspect ratios to suit the scene.
- An optional grid & level indicator gives you confidence when composing.

BUILT FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS
Since the first version, mood.camera has been guided from feedback by an engaged community of photographers. With over 100,000 photos taken in it’s trial period,

“Mood has filled the biggest hole in my photography life, which is spur of the moment, day to day scenes when I shouldn’t even be thinking of taking photos. Even with my “real” camera at home, Mood allows me to capture the little moments with nothing but my phone and some inspiration.“ - Cole, photographer.

Brings Fun Back to Photo Taking

I have been messing with the mood app the last few weeks while on vacation in Europe. It has been fun and very useful to get very appealing, analog, creative shots while walking about. Really tons of fun. The plus is you don’t have to give up your Full Size Image as there is a setting when to take pictures to have both a Mood one saved and an original photo without the filter applied. Very handy so you don’t need to make a choice on a moment or a shot and have it only go one way which may or may not work out.

I still have to dig deeper, and these options may exist already, but my only asks are to make sure the original photo being saved is in RAW Max format as an option (it just says original now) and that you could apply the filters to any photos after the fact. That would open up endless possibilities but I also understand it’s all about the moment. Great fun, thank you for creating the app!

The BEST “film” camera app!

Used this app during beta testing, and quickly fell in love with it. The film choices are a perfect representation of the classics we all started with before digital. The fact that you don’t see the finished image in the viewfinder adds to the feel of waiting for your images to be developed. (Don’t worry…you don’t actually have to wait…they’re in the app/your camera roll.) Plenty of quality/tone options, with sample images to show you the results. And the best part for me is no subscription model! Lifetime access is a game changer for me. Definitely recommend.

Good to hear that you enjoy the experience and film emulations, thank you for being a beta tester and thank you for the ongoing support!

Pretty cool app.

The design of the app is nice and pretty simple to use. The film emulation is pretty. The only issue Iv been having is the colors seem to be very inconsistent especially with skin tones. Even though the developer likes the idea of taking the picture and then seeing the film process after the fact. I think there should be a toggle that allows users to see a live version of the film if they want to that way they can get an idea how the colors would look for skin tones. Another good addition to the app would be being able to mirror the front camera images instead of having to edit the photo to flip the image just have a toggle in the settings to mirror the picture.

A lot of people would really love the live film emulation to be seen. Hope you give it some thought. This app is beautiful.

Developer Response ,

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I've now added an option to flip photos taken with the selfie cam. Regarding the "live preview", it does take some getting used to, but I believe it's a purer photography experience that encourages the user to be in the moment and take photos instead of playing around with settings. As you've suggested, I could add an option, but I don't want to discourage users from experiencing it initially and although it might seem unusual at first, most users seem to grow to love it as a feature.
