Description
The new MoonBoard App is designed to support the new redesigned MoonBoard website and both standard and LED MoonBoards.
What is the MoonBoard App?
Our new MoonBoard App brings all the benefits of the MoonBoard website to the user’s smart phone or tablet. It also includes several new features. The key features of the MoonBoard
App are as follows.
The user can choose the MoonBoard hold set up used on their wall.
View problems.
Light up problems (LED MoonBoard required).
Easily and quickly add problems.
Simply sort and filter problems.
Grade and rate problems
Create multiple lists of problems (e.g. warm ups, favourites, projects, training routines.
Keep a log of all your MoonBoard sessions and monitor progress.
Login using your Google or Apple accounts.
Share problems and lists with contacts.
What is the LED MoonBoard ?
The MoonBoard LED system brings easy identification of problems to the MoonBoard. Beneath each MoonBoard t-nut position is an LED light, which is controlled by our MoonBoard App via bluetooth. When the user selects a problem on the App, the holds that make up that problem are illuminated by their corresponding LED lights.
Our new LED system gives users access to tens of thousands of MoonBoard problems in just a click and a swipe, making the MoonBoard training facility even more user-friendly and accessible than ever before. Multiple climbers can pair and control the LED system at the same time. The new V2 LED control box can illuminate the LEDs above and below the holds making it easier to locate the next hand or foot hold during climbing.

Ratings and Reviews
Buggy
Just tried removing 1 problem from a list of 12 and changing the order of things. Now my list is empty…
Please stop switching users when looking at other problems.
The app shouldn’t switch to the other user when swipe problems or open other problems. It should be more intentional to switch back like pressing the light button again. I’ve accidentally changed the problem on people twice when they’re climbing.
I know in the settings I can turn off light when swiping and tapping on problem but I actually like those features when I am not interrupting someone else’s climbing.
Poor UX and reliability
The app suffers from a host of unintuitive ways to interact with it, from navigation to adding a new climb. It works as a minimum viable product, but certainly falls short of similar app experiences.
To compound these issues, I find that I am regularly dealing with technical issues that prevent me from logging climbs or even looking at the leaderboard. Generally deleting and reinstalling solves this, but talk about a modern software experience.
