Available information and resources cover a wide variety of topics within the following categories:
- New Spouse
- Mentorship & Networking
- Adult Education
- Spouse Employment & Navy Civilian Career Opportunities
- Legal Resources
- Family Financial Planning
- Parenthood
- Special Needs Family Support
- Moving & Relocation
- Service Member Deployment
- Emotional Support Services
- Healthy Living, Recreation, Lodging, Shopping & Travel
- Family Emergencies
- Transition & Retirement
- Parents & Family Members of Sailors
- Survivor Resources

In addition to a wealth of useful content, the app offers several features:
- Military Installation Search – Find information about every military installation around the world with contact information, base map, programs and services, plus an overview of its mission.
- MyNavy Career Center – Get help and information with this 24/7 resource, with in-app ability to call or send an email to a customer service representative.
- Emergency Contacts – Access a list of Navy websites and phone numbers for immediate support from a range of organizations, such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Sexual Assault Crisis Support, National Domestic Violence Hotline, the American Red Cross Emergency Hotline, and others.
- Content Sharing – Share information by using other mobile device applications, such as email, SMS text, and iMessage.
- Feedback – Provide input about the app content and use.

The MyNavy Family app was developed by a Spouse Advisory Tiger Team that was established by the Navy Sailor Experience team. The Tiger Team included Navy Spouses, along with the Ombudsman at Large, Navy organizations that provide services to Navy families, and several nonprofit organizations.

The app is part of a larger effort by the Navy to improve the experiences of spouses and families in order to promote strong Navy families and support them in every way possible. Download the app today!

A good start

For a new spouse this is definitely a handy start to your navy life. The app is solely organized links to other websites. It’s not a self contained app. If you are already familiar with fleet and family and military one source it’s not worth the space on your phone.

A great idea that needs analytics and updating

Like the content updates for 2020, this rating has been updated for 2020. The same functionality issues exist. The app has a search function but it is limited and doesn’t work with the common questions of the inexperienced Navy spouse.
Questions like:
What do I wear to a Navy Ball, Dining Out, to visit a ship/sub/squadron?
How do I get on base to visit my spouse?
Ship visit
Hail and farewell

If the key word in the question doesn’t match the app’s main content titles the search comes up empty. A new spouse may not be familiar with the general headings for specific topics

If the content is locked in a pdf file the search will always come up empty as the engine doesn’t search pdf. Take the content out of that format and put it into a responsive text size format and there might be more success in that arena.

Having to hamburger to get to comments and feedback means the app won’t get many comments or feedback items. More than one click is a detriment for use. The feed back function is currently broken so I placed my feed back here so that the creators will have access to it.

Checking the analytics of whether or not the app is used or removed from the phone after download and what aspects of the app are used most and what areas users linger on or depart the app from will give insight as to areas of success and areas that could be tweaked to encourage more use and sharing of the information about the app. Without use analytics any updates for content and usability are shots in the dark that may not be the target that is most needed.

The app is a great idea in itself- and active duty members get it and don’t think twice because they’ve had extensive onboarding into Navy life. It needs updates and accessibility tweaking before it will be used and successful in the Navy family arena. Spouses and family members are not living in or used to communicating the same way that occurs in the culture of active duty and thus move on after giving the app a once quick look to other resources and will simply search google or another engine to find their answers faster.
