Little Skimpy

It gives a good definition, and offers a sentence to help understand its usage.

My biggest disappointment is that it does not offer synonyms, and $9.99 is a bit pricy for a standard dictionary with no bells and whistles, when you can right click any word on your screen and get a basic definition.

I guess I should have looked more closely at the features before I leaped. I wish they would offer that as an add-on. I would purchase it.

Great App + Superlative Content

These WordWeb dictionaries (New Oxford in this case) are basically an exceptional replacement for the built-indictionaries in MacOS. The content is very well organanized, and the interface is up-to-date with the latest improvements in MacOS. As far as content, it does not get any better than Oxford and Chambers. Of course it would be amaziang to have the entire Oxford English Dictionary, but that license is impossible to obtain and would cost $1,000. But for everyday use this is a fantastic set of products. If you have not looked, check out the other offerings by this developer. I have used these WordWeb softwares for 9 years (since 2009) before they were on the App Store. They are truly excellent for writers, academics, and other researchers. Fast, efficient with good content. (I am also putting this review on the other WordWeb App Store products I own, because they really are part of an integrated product.)

Same content as Mac’s built in dictionary

I thought I would be getting more detailed information about individual words with this app, but the content is identical to the dictionary that is built in on my Mac. By which I mean the same defintion, example sentences, everything. The only thing this app offers extra is pronunciation. In short, a waste of money.

Developer Response ,

That’s right (hence the fairly low price). It adds pronunciations, full text search, pattern search and anagram solving. It is offline.
