What has happened to Okcupid?

This app used to be the great back when they cared and help start relationships. Now it’s just a quick cash grab while preying on those looking for some companionship. For starters I never understood why they removed the “viewed you” tab. It was nice gesture to see who looked at your profile and let you know whose online at the moment. The recent changes I’ve noticed is they’ve now limited your swiping unless you pay a premium for unlimited swipes which for one month was initially $10 and is now $50 which is insane. You can’t see intros unless you pay it, so unless your ok with parting ways with that kinda money I don’t see why anyone would continue to use this app. Most of the women on here write in their profiles they can’t see likes and to just message them, which leads me to believe they are not paying so how can they see intros? They used to have tab where you could scroll and see potential matches based on how you’ve answered their questions. Now you can only swipe left or right so unless you like the person right then and there you risk losing them forever. There is even a tab for “New users” and “Popular users” that you must pay in order to see them, like they are for sale or something. Not trying to accuse them of taking advantage of users who have decided to try online dating cause of Covid. But it’s odd how almost every feature is hidden behind a pay wall.

I appreciate the features of OKC

On-line dating in general is frustrating, awkward and full of disappointment. I’ve tried at least 8 different sites in the past decade and I think OK Cupid is the best. Although the questions are often ridiculous (are the designers high when they dream up questions like “would you ever punch someone in the face for no reason?”) most of them do give the seeker a snap shot of the potential match. That is of course if they are being honest. I appreciate the fact that reading through the answers can often bring up deal breakers so it saves us both wasting time.
One thing I want to note and hope the administration of OKC listens: your standards of acceptable photos is skewed in giving more leeway to men; I’ve had good photos rejected by your photo cops for not being full facial view. The photo was a head turned sideways shot. One of the guys I met here had 5 crappy photos; 1 blurry & far away, 1 on a sailboat blurry & far away & 3 with masks on including 1 with sunglasses and a hat so zero facial features were exposed. I see this all the time.
I like the ease of posting photos and the prompts to fill out a profile narrative are helpful. I’ve had almost no scamming hits on here compared to other sites. Thank you OKC

Used to be great

OKC used to be one of the top apps for meeting people and I know people who met on OKC and are still together today. Then over time they started implementing changes that make the app useless. Now you can’t see likes or even sent messages (where you’ve sent a message but they have yet to respond). So what this basically means is that if you’re swiping and you see someone you like, if you don’t send them a message right then and there you’ll likely lose that person. It used to be you could “like” them and go back and view their profile and message them later, but now that’s changed because in OKC’s mind you should only see that person again, at that point, if the like it mutual. Every other which way of communicating with people that’s not a mutual connection is paywalled. Pay to see non-mutual intros. Pay to see non-mutual likes. The main problem with dating apps nowadays is they’ve lost their purpose.
Everything is monetized and that overrides basic functionalities.

You can also tell that users (at least in my area) are dropping this app because you see a lot of the same people and there’s no way to limit (if there is not intuitively) the double take results to just the country you’re in so they make it seem like there’s a lot more of a “pool” by showing people from all over the world. Also, a lot of people only show up in your swipes but not when you search even though they fall under the search criteria.
