Editors’ Notes

As kids we were taught to eat our veggies so they didn’t go to waste, yet as adults we’re often desensitized to the amount of unspoiled sustenance discarded worldwide every day. Olio helps find a home for unwanted edibles, using local postings that are a snap to create or browse. Whether a nearby farm is getting rid of excess rhubarb (it makes great pies, honest) or we’re going on holiday and want the chorizo meatballs in our fridge to end up on a neighbor’s plate instead of in the trash, Olio is a feel-good way to reduce food waste.

Great idea, has some kinks

The app mostly works well besides for the lack of users near me and slow loading times. If there aren’t a lot of users now, and the app takes up to 10 seconds to refresh at times, then I’m not sure how it will handle growth. Overall great idea though!

Great Concept, but Buggy

I was super excited when I found out about this app, as I always try to divert food waste, however, there are definitely a few annoying bugs / some potential ways this app could be better.

For one, there really should be a way to specify WHAT kind of notifications you want (IE: Radius for which you want to receive notifications, product categories (pastas, vegetables, fruit, lotions, craft products) as I have had to mute the notifications as there are too many and they seem to show up despite nothing new showing in the distance range I have filtered. Second issue is just too many notifications (and to reiterates that are not relevant to me).

I also find that “Select All” does not function to delete what you have written when you maybe need to rewrite or rephrase something. This is a definite bug.

Neat app. I’ve successfully given an item away that I couldn’t eat due to allergies. Had a taker in just an hour!! Super awesome. I just hope the improvements can be made re: the bugs & filtration for notifications!!

I have an iPhone X’s operating iOS 12 at the moment, in case this is helpful for app developers of Olio. Thank you for your time.
