Parathyroid Surgery Guide 12+

The level of care that I received at this hospital is at the very top!!! From the time my husband and I entered the building we received superb care. We traveled from Virginia to have this surgery. I have had high calcium levels for approximately 6 years and had no idea it was causing all the problems I was having until my new primary care doctor advised me how serious this condition was. Reached out to EVMS ear, nose and throat in my area to schedule in August 2023 and they could see me until December 15, 2023. I waited for all of those months to go in on December 15th at 8 am and they advise me that my appointment was bumped to December 22nd. I went back on December 22nd but I was not comfortable with a surgeon that only had one year in practice doing multiple types of surgeries in ENT and not just parathyroid. That’s when I went to Google and found this amazing hospital in Tampa, Florida. Read the reviews and I was in. Set the appointment and had my consultation with Dr. Kevin Parrack on February 9th and here I am on March 12th and it’s done!!! The other good thing is that the parathyroid tumor was what I was coming to have removed, however, when they went in they found another abnormal gland and removed that one too. I thank God for ordering my steps to this hospital. Thank you to Dr. Kevin Parrack and the wonderful team of nurses, doctors, and staff at this amazing hospital!!!

For almost a year I had battled with lack of interest, depression, hypertension, body aches and pains,RA, vertigo, kidney stones and Mini stroke. A handful of doctors treated each symptom separately but to no avail. One however did notice that my calcium was high and this led me to do my own research. I found Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa. I realized I was dealing with parathyroid disease. From the time I emailed them up until my surgery on Feb 24,2022 I had nothing but exceptional care. From administrators, Nicole and Pam to Kimberly scheduling my surgery to Dr Luke Watkins (surgeon) calling me and answering any questions And he diagnosed my primary hyperthyroidism. I used one of the recommended hotels with limo service to hospital, greeted by wonderful staff and nurses Alexandria and Mariah. NeeNee in radiology to Sharon in Anesthesia and my operating nurses It was WORLD CLASS treatment. Dr Carling surgeon performed the surgery (removed a tumor and in total two glands) and called me that night to see how I was doing. This isn’t a surgery you can trust anyone to do. They do this surgery all day long. I cannot thank them enough for this exceptional care. I feel great the lack of interest a depression gone, less body aches and I have more energy, no problems with vertigo to date. I expect a full recovery and getting my life back. I had high calcium as far back as electronic records in my healthcare facility go. Probably longer. Multiple kidney stones and regularly passed “gravel”. Severe headaches. High bp. Stomach acid issues. More. No one noticed high calcium despite (!) on every test result. Even treatment by urologist with 24 urine testing didn’t pick up on it! Finally, new PCP noticed and diagnosed hyperparathyroidism. Needless to say, I wasn’t going to trust this facility with my ongoing care (despite pcp diagnosis). Began my own research and found Norman Center. Their response to my situation was phenomenal. Between the helpful phone conversations and the APP, I decided to travel to Florida for surgery. Long story a little longer, I couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. They treated my wife and me like royalty. Surgery and follow up went smoothly. I am now close to two years post. Headaches, gone. Gravel, gone. Calcium, normal. Working on weaning off bp meds. To say I’m happy with Norman Center would be a big understatement. These folks save a big chunk of the quality of my life. I highly recommend them. And the APP is wonderful for all things Parathyroid. I have recommended it to many others.
