Deckbuilding roguelite with a unique and strategic combat system
While simple at first, the game’s combat system really shines once you start finding combos between various cards and ways to play around the various buff/debuffs. The game’s balance does have a couple issues; while the cards themselves are quite balanced against each other and offer interesting choices of what card to take/keep, the lower difficulty runs are cakewalks, and the highest difficulty runs provide most of the challenge in the early part of the run, as once you find a handful of decent cards, even the bosses become pushovers, often dying before your deck “does its thing”. It would be nice if future updates gave higher difficulties with enemies having better or more synergistic cards, or otherwise making later fights more threatening in a way that requires the player to prepare for them, specifically. All that said, fight by fight the game is full of interesting decisions around what cards are on cooldown, what your win condition is, and what the enemy is trying to do. Because of the buff/debuff system, there is very often interesting counterplay to each enemy’s strategy with a wide array of cards. Besides gameplay, the art is great, the music fits the atmosphere very well, there is no need to pay for anything, and the story is interesting. This level of quality would feel at home as a PC game.
I can honestly say this is one of the best game designs I have seen from mobile games in a while. At first, the design seems kind of generic, and underwhelming; after all, many mobile games have the same feel to them. However, as you play this game, you’ll learn that this game is pretty unique. Apart from the fact that your character can have a multitude of different playstyles (like the cooldown oneshot build or the vampire healthy build), you also notice that the game isn’t strictly pay to win. In fact, it demands you to have a strategic brain. Now of course, there is a purchase that makes things easier, but it barely does anything in the face of the overall skill based gameplay. The art of the game is bloody amazing, and is a good indicator that the creators really cared about the game. Although the game feels small right now, with time it’ll get more and more content. Try it for yourself and see if you like it.
I really like this game. I love the art style, I love the enemy designs, the environment, I just love it. The style and music is my favorite part of this game. The play style is really interesting, I always liked rouge like games, especially card game info games, and this is no exception. I like all the different decks you can build, and the fact that you need to play around with cool downs, (and health in risky mode) is which really helps this game stand out on any other rouge like card game. My only complaint is that it’s too easy, once you figure out the boss gimmicks you don’t lose a lot (except against Charlotte as a stage 1 boss, but she’s not too threatening if she appears as a later boss fight). The hardest part for me is getting started, but stages 2 and especially stage3 aren’t that hard for me because I already have my deck built, I don’t know if it’s just me but I don’t think that the enemies scale enough in strength or to punish you for playing certain gimmicks (like Time who was the first boss I lost because I stacked a lot of bleed on her). This game needs stronger enemies, and ways that they can counter you if you play a certain style (I played decks with a lot of bleed debuff so many times and won because none of the enemies except Time and Lucia have a way to deal with debuffs). Overall I like this game, and would recommend as an introduction to rouge likes.
