Description

Use your phone’s camera in free guided photography practices and bring calm and creativity to your life

Photography as Prayer is a meditative app that will quickly give you a new and exciting way to become focused and calm as you use your phone’s camera in guided, simple-to-follow ten-minute photo-meditations. Each practice is designed to help you develop an easily accessible way to shut off the noise and tensions in your life any time day or night. As you do the photo practices, you will find yourself not only making beautiful pictures, but increasingly centered and ultimately more deeply connected with yourself.

The practices are short. They are not done sitting quietly in a darkened room. You will make photographs in a focused way that will leave you feeling refreshed and positive. The app includes easy to follow photo-meditative practices, a step-by-step field guide, a contributors gallery, its own camera with a personal file to keep and share your photographs. Best of all is the Prayer Book. Use it to create your own personal prayers and messages using your favorite photographs. Your photographs and prayer book entries can be shared on social media, texted, emailed, or printed. For some users, Photography as Prayer is a private personal practice used only for centering calm, creative and spiritual expression. Others share their practice with their faith-based communities and friends. The choice is yours and yours alone.

A beautiful tool to reflect back beauty within

I am using this tool as a way to find what speaks to me each day and notice the gentle connection I have with the world around me. I see that the images that draw me in are often parts of me that are being reflected out in the world. Much like the tarot deck and other card decks I use in my practice as a medium and intuitive, this app offers us moments of beautiful clarity and connection.

Use your phone to get closer to yourself

Usually the phone takes you away from yourself and your environment. What’s amazing about Photography as Prayer is it does the reverse, helping you focus on the things that matter to you and the place where you are, now. I love using this app. I’ve also shared it with my teenager and tween, and they’ve spent hours on it. It’s nice to give them an app that is good for our minds and our souls, too.

Is meditation prayer?

There is some irony in the fact that the phone is a device intended to connect you to the whole world, and it often disconnects you from the immediate world you live in.

This app helps you to change that.

Let go of the world, pick up your camera, and reconnect with your self.

Although the name of the app might indicate its prayer or religion orientated, I believe this a much broader concept...

Though daily exercises this app will help you focus on life and your immediate surroundings through a form of meditation with your phones camera.

Tune in, turn it on, and drop out ( for ten minutes a day )
