Description

Pip School by Sprout Labs is a reading instruction game grounded in the science of reading and Orton-Gillingham principles. Designed for children ages 4–8, Pip School teaches pre-reading skills to ensure your child masters key reading milestones at the right time. Whether your child is facing challenges while learning to read, is at risk for dyslexia, or you simply want to give them the strongest literacy foundation possible, Pip School is here to help them grow into confident, capable readers through an engaging and personalized experience.

In the game, your child joins Pip, their friendly toucan guide, at a cultural fair. They’ll unlock rewards and prizes as they build their skills and meet new animal friends. Your child will develop critical pre-reading skills and become a reader before your eyes! Pip School’s science-based exercises strengthen essential reading foundations, including phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and language comprehension. With Pip School, your child will stay on the right path to reading success.

The app is available as part of the Sprout Labs program, providing everything you need to help your child become a confident reader. As part of the program, you’ll have access to a dedicated Reading Specialist, who will help you create a customized learning plan and track your child’s progress. To help you understand whether your child is on track compared to peers across the U.S., your Reading Specialist will administer the award-winning EarlyBird Assessment, trusted by schools nationwide. The Sprout Labs program is more than just a game — it’s a fully customized educational experience designed to ensure your child becomes a competent, confident reader.

Good for a struggling reader

My daughter (6) uses this app because she is falling behind a bit in reading. It's been really great for her to practice skills that she didn't have. I didn't really understand at first that many of these exercises are what happens before a kid starts reading. She's in Kindergarten, so I was expecting it to jump to reading words right away. It gets harder pretty quickly, and she likes the rewards and practicing her letters in the ferris wheel game. She's gotten a lot more confident with her reading, and I think it's because it goes back to the basics. The whole thing is really conscious of overstimulation and screen time.

This app is part of a program with a real life human being! She has been great at figuring out what my daughter needs to be good at reading. The assessment they give is detailed, and I'm glad it's all backed by science.

Keep the learning curve going

Our teacher recommended this for our son (she said he is not doing as well as he needs to be a successful reader). I like seeing the weekly progress reports and he likes that it’s a game.

Great for early readers

I know this is a reading intervention app, but it has been great for my young niece as well (5 years old). I can tell how it helps with her processing as she begins her reading journey. She also loves Pip and all the animal friends— especially the Elephant!
