A product that has reached #1 on the front page of Hacker News and topped the paid tools chart across all European countries, while ranking #2 in the US on the same day.
Queryable: An open-source, offline photo album search tool unlike anything you've ever seen.
With Queryable, you can search your photos using detailed and natural descriptions such as "two people by the sea," "a blonde woman holding a glass of red wine," "a girl in red on the lawn," or even emotional moments like "We fell in love."
Unlike traditional photo apps that rely on simple tags, Queryable understands complex and lengthy descriptions. It's completely open-source, works entirely offline, and requires no network connection, ensuring your photo album's privacy is fully protected.
Pay once and use it forever. No network connection is needed after downloading, guaranteeing your privacy remains safeguarded.
FAQ:
1. What languages does Queryable support?
Queryable supports English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian, though the English version delivers significantly better results.
2. How is my photo privacy protected?
Queryable works completely offline. You can even disable the app's network permissions if you have privacy concerns.
3. How do I use it?
After downloading, you'll need to build an index for your photos, which takes a few minutes depending on your photo collection and device. On an iPhone 12 mini, it processes about 2,000 photos per minute, and this indexing is only required once.
Once indexing is complete, you can quickly search and get results. When you add new photos to your collection, you can easily update the index.

I like how quick and easy it is to use. One issue I have is that the images aren’t masonry like on the photos app which makes it a bit hard to see but its not a big deal imo. When selecting multiple images I wish you could multiselect a lot of images like on the photod app. I’d also like if you could copy your entire selection in the share option or move them to another app. The only action you can take is deleting it which is neat but more options (like copying or ideally opening them in another app) would be great! On the iPad if your in horizontal mode and you open an image. The image apparently shrinks in size. You have to put it on vertical one and back to horizontal mode to fix it.If a couple of this changes could be implemented that would take this application from a great app to a extremely useful one. Overall this is a great project! Keep up the great work!!!If I see any of these changes I’ll be happy to give this a 5 star!Edit: saw this awesome update go through!! Glad to see improvements are being made! Amazing app! :)
Way better than iOS search
Mustache Emperor
The UI is very simple and will benefit from some polish, but this works perfectly on my 14 Pro. Make sure to let the index complete the first time you run the app. The search quality is really impressive. I can find every Simpsons meme in my saved photos, every picture I’ve ever taken at an art museum, every picture I’ve taken of a neon sign, every selfie I took with my old roommate at a bar. This really feels like the future. Big thanks to the dev, I really appreciate having this.
Developer Response
Thanks for letting me know about it! The UI does need more polishing, and in the latest version (v1.2.0) the UI will be more flexible to fit the phone.
Extremely useful

I bought this because I was interested in the technology (read about it on HN) but this app has been surprisingly useful. I have a lot of photos on my phone, and it’s great to be able to find photos containing an object. I use it about once every two weeks. I wish the native Photos search was this good. I also appreciate that all of the machine learning is done on device in a privacy preserving way. Apple should buy this app.
Developer Response
Thanks for understanding.
Really amazing semantic search

I’ve realized it’s surprisingly often I need a very specific photo that Apple Photos or Google Photos just can’t handle with its basic object search. But Queryable is able to handle these complex scenarios nearly every time! “Pizza box secured to a bicycle with cargo straps”? - got it! “Black cat loafing on a piece of styrofoam”? - no problem! And entirely locally?? Super impressive.Apple really needs to hire the person behind this app and integrate it into Apple Photos.
Developer Response
Thank you for making me feel that what I do is meaningful.
Performance
- 4x Faster Launch — App startup reduced from ~16s to ~4s on large libraries (60,000+ photos).
- Faster Search — Photo similarity search is now GPU-accelerated.
What's New
- Smarter Duplicate Detection — Completely rewritten algorithm with quality scoring. Duplicates are now grouped more accurately, and you can batch-delete them in one tap.
- iCloud Photo Hints — When viewing a blurry iCloud photo, an orange banner now guides you to download the full-resolution version.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed crash during long indexing sessions — Users with very large photo libraries no longer experience crashes when building the index.
- Fixed cancel button not responding — Tapping "Cancel" during indexing now stops immediately as expected.
- Fixed progress bar not appearing — The indexing progress bar now shows up right away instead of after a delay.
Improvements
- Adaptive layout — The UI now renders consistently across different iPhone and iPad screen sizes.
- Dynamic Type support — Text and icons now respect your system font size preference.
