Ratings and Reviews
Addendum to Great but with a pesky flaw
I'd give it five stars but for an issue referred to in someone's earlier review by that name. It doesn't reliably keep the previously chosen zoom level. I read the developer's response, but alas and respectfully, he is wrong. It will usually keep the same zoom level, but for some reason(s) will lose that chosen level. My personal experience is with the large window in which I show a national map along with a high-zoom map of local interest (I'm a boater). Might be nit-picking, but - -
Great but with a new pesky flaw
I have used this app for years on two different Mac’s and use it daily. In the last month they have updated the d/l versions several times, so it’s good that support is ongoing, The current iteration has lost the integration of radar image with your chosen geography. One upgrade back, it would load the the local map and then auto zoom (!) in and out to the national view, now it only opens to the full national view. You can click somewhaere on the image to get it to show your local chosen view. No idea why it misbehaves this way.
In general, it is still SOOOO much better than the ad-stuffed images I can see at our local ‘net weather sites. It is certainly worth the money.
If it helps anyone, I now run it on my 2012 MacBookPro, with High Sierra (most recent OS we can run with limited -stock- RAM)
Editorial comment: I have also read some other reviews, and some puzzling ones concern the cost… this little app is about the price of a “La Tae” cup of overpriced coffee!
Developer Response ,
Hello, thank you for your review. Please note there are 2 options for you to get the views you want and to keep them that way. Firstly, it sounds like you are using the Regular window style option. This shows only one map and you can zoom in and out as you like. Once you set the zoom level to how you like it, please quit the app immediately, then when you relaunch it will remember that zoom setting.
You can also select the Large window style (in the app preferences) which will show you 2 maps side by side - the local and national view. You can also set the zoom level to these maps as you like them, then quit the app, relaunch, and they will be remembered. I hope this explains it. Not practical for constant use
I purchased this app a few years ago. It has gone from my go to, to a no go. Any click on the screen, off of the app screen causes it to minimize, even while using multiple screens. This makes the app pretty much useless if you want to leave it up and running on one screen and work on another. It makes more sense and is more useful to load a web page from another weather radar provider and leave that up on one of the screens.
I don't see how anyone could benefit from this app in its current state, over any other, given the fact that it is useless for weather and storm monitoring.
