Good, But Could Be Better
As someone whom loves to monitor the weather around me, I find this app to be pretty good but in need of some work. For starters, when the app runs on screen for awhile, for some odd reason it tends to drop from the screen but still show as being active at the bottom of my screen running the latest MacBook Pro OS. Also could use more functions such as wind speed and direction as well as different map styles. This app has what it takes to be one of the greatest weather apps out there. I hope to see this happen in coming updates.
Great but with a new pesky flaw
I have used this app for years on two different Mac’s and use it daily. In the last month they have updated the d/l versions several times, so it’s good that support is ongoing, The current iteration has lost the integration of radar image with your chosen geography. One upgrade back, it would load the the local map and then auto zoom (!) in and out to the national view, now it only opens to the full national view. You can click somewhaere on the image to get it to show your local chosen view. No idea why it misbehaves this way.
In general, it is still SOOOO much better than the ad-stuffed images I can see at our local ‘net weather sites. It is certainly worth the money.
If it helps anyone, I now run it on my 2012 MacBookPro, with High Sierra (most recent OS we can run with limited -stock- RAM)
Editorial comment: I have also read some other reviews, and some puzzling ones concern the cost… this little app is about the price of a “La Tae” cup of overpriced coffee!
Developer Response ,
Hello, thank you for your review. Please note there are 2 options for you to get the views you want and to keep them that way. Firstly, it sounds like you are using the Regular window style option. This shows only one map and you can zoom in and out as you like. Once you set the zoom level to how you like it, please quit the app immediately, then when you relaunch it will remember that zoom setting.
You can also select the Large window style (in the app preferences) which will show you 2 maps side by side - the local and national view. You can also set the zoom level to these maps as you like them, then quit the app, relaunch, and they will be remembered. I hope this explains it. Does a nice job
When rain is coming I use this to see realtime doppler radar for the exact area I wish to view. They added a couple timeline sequences that are predictive, I can see where the storm will be in 10 and 20 minutes from current charting. It has been reliable and usefull, better than looking at a website version that I have to figure out and configure for my location. I can also "program" in mutiple locations for use at any time. The "hourly" chart is well layed and quite usefull. My only wish is that the multi-day portion of the upper section of the app would allow to see more text that often indicates what the rain percentage would be indicated, but no real problem, just a "wish list" thing and still give it 5 stars.
