Writers Take Note!

Sometimes you just can't catch that horrible sentence structure that you've just written. Other times, you get so excited and caught up in your story that your eyes miss those pesky little typos that your publisher or your readers will rake you over the coals for. I self publish and am a free lance writer for several publications and have published my own book. Had I known about this handy application, I would have saved myself a lot of trouble and heartache. Alas, many great writers aren't the best grammaticians but they happen to be great story tellers. It can be difficult to find a great copy editor or find someone that can proofread your work. Here is the perfect app that can assist any writer in creating your next project. Sometimes it helps to hear your words instead of your eyes glancing over them to catch your mistakes. You can choose from a variety of voices to read your work ranging from the hilarious to serious. It did have a few glitches and I had to start and top the application a few times to finish the document. Well worth the money and I highly recommend. Hopefullly the creators will fix a few bugs here and there to make this app perfect.
I think this will be useful.
p.hal
I just purchased V1.6.14 and I think it will be useful for me. I blog and write fiction. I read my text aloud and I should be able to use Read4me to do that and save me some effort. The voice coach was fun to play with, as I was able to program voices with slightly different pitches to read a dialogue aloud. I wish that it were possible to annotate the text to change from one voice to another, say Agnes for a woman, and Alex for a man. Although the help section says that [[rset 0]] resets values to standard, it appears that full stops, 'periods', do the same. In an extended speech, pitch change commands will need to be issued after each full stop. There are still some glitches. For example, in the text I have written "… it affects how that human lives, …" but Read4me read "lives" with a long 'i' rather than a short 'i'.
Simple-easy-to-use way to check your writing
fillip
This is perfect for checking my writing. I like to use Alex at 140wpm. Just copy-n-paste what I've written into Read4Me, and let Alex do his thing--read what I've written while I check to see how well what I wrote sounds and feels like. I can easily spot those mis-spelled words that a spell checker can't check. For example, I'm always typing 'it's' for 'its'. With Read4Me doing all the talking I now have a better chance at spotting these types of errors. One thing everyone needs to know if they don't already, our Macs have the ability to read already. In fact, Read4Me has pretty much the same voices that are available in our Macs.So why buy this App?It's simple, it makes it easier to get access to the voices, as well as, using the voices. To use this App, you have to copy-paste your text into the text box of Read4Me. Then select your voice and the words-per-minute you want to listen at. Where ever you put your cursor is where your voice will start reading. If you want to change to a new voice, you have to stop the reading, select the new voice, place the cursor where you want to begin reading from and let R4M start reading. And finally, the developer has been very responsive to suggestions and problems. For example with 1.3.2 I can now set my words-per-minute to any speed as my default. Nice!
The Ultimate Reader… Trust me.
Left Angle
I’ve just spent the better part of a week copying and pasting every old mp3, txt, pdf, doc, edoc, odt and any other text formatted ebook I never had the chance to read into Read4Me.My eyesight is failing, so I was extremely interested in llearning I could convert my old e-library into audio format. I don’t have Lion installed, so I can’t download the new Apple voices, but listening to “Alex” is actually easier than straining to understand the multiple voices of Librivox volunteers (bless them). Alex, being somewhat monotone, read me to sleep last night… But for people my age, that’s a good thing.Features such as volume, pitch, rate adjustability and its excellent spell checker are cool, but Read4Me’s ability to convert any text file into m4b (or aif) format makes this program “The One”. As soon as you to play a second or two of a Read4Me converted file, iTunes will recognize the m4b format and allow syncing onto your iPhone or iPod. I’ll be giving a lengthy toast in a couple of weeks and Read4Me will be going on the trip to help me memorize it.The developer is also pro-active and anxious to hear from users, which tells me he’ll be improving on Read4Me for a long, long time. Now, if I can only find a way to open all those old Palm prc files from the 90s…:)This app is top shelf and definitely deserves 5 stars.
