Recognizing Captions turns speech into text and keeps it with your notes and photos. Use it for meetings, interviews, classes and conversations in the room. START WITH A CONVERSATION Choose the spoken language, let everyone know you are recording, then start. Follow the live captions, add a note, mark an important moment or photograph the whiteboard. The app keeps these details together. COME BACK TO THE DETAILS Find your saved conversations in History. Read the transcript, review your notes and photos, or create a simple local summary. Transcripts and summaries can make mistakes, so check important details before sharing. USE IT WITH YOUR MAC Each app works on its own. When you want a bigger screen, prepare a saved conversation for Mac and send it using AirDrop or Files. Captions, notes and attached photos travel together; original audio stays on your phone. With Recognizing for Mac 1.0.2 or later, you can also return a prepared meeting record to its original iPhone conversation. Sharing is your choice; there is no automatic cloud sync. YOU CONTROL RECORDING Recording starts only when you choose. Before each conversation, you can enable Continue when locked to keep saving audio while the screen is locked or you use another app. Without this choice, backgrounding or locking pauses recording. Calls and audio interruptions pause capture; it never silently resumes. In-app acknowledgements record taps on the device, not participant identity or legal consent. YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU No Recognizing account, advertising or analytics. Audio, captions, notes and photos are stored on your device until you share or delete them. Speech transcription and photo text recognition use Apple's on-device frameworks. Preparing speech assets may require internet access. Destinations you choose when sharing may upload data. Optional descriptions of saved photos require a compatible device, iOS 27 and a ready Apple Intelligence model. They run on device; no cloud fallback is used. Photo access and text recognition still work without that feature. Requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Available transcription languages depend on the on-device speech support for your device and chosen language.
