Ratings and Reviews
Terrible user interface and performance as a "security" camera
I love Reolink for their hardware technology and capability, which is hands above other budget-friendsly systems. However, both the iOS app and the desktop client for macOS are possibly the worst user interfaces I've ever used. Want to see the live view of the activity for which you just received a notification? Good luck, it will take no less than 3 minutes for the "live" video to load (if it ever does load, becuase sometimes it just will not).
Want to view your recorded videos? Good luck getting them from either the iOS app or the desktop client, neither will stay connected to the network long enough for the download. I literally have to remove the SD cards to see the recordings, and guess what, once replaced the cameras have to be set up all over again FROM THE BEGINNING and the cards have to be reformatted (better make sure you save all those videos when you take that card out).
Oh, you have your cameras within 15 ft of your router which gets gigabit speeds and still can't get a steady Wifi connection to view live/recorded video? Big surprise.
Their customer service and hardware are great, everything else about the experience using Reolink cameras is terrible. I no longer recommend Reolink to other people as I have zero confidence in their capability to fix any of the issues. This page speaks for itself; the last update to the app was FOUR YEARS AGO?! Seriously?
The few tiems it will record when you need it to, the playback fails.
I have two Argus 2 Solar Powered outdoor cams and one POE Dome cam. Reolink got so much right that other home cam companies have failed at in the past. From solar powered outdoor cams to POE. The software is easy to install and linking the cams is pretty simple. But the actual use for them seems like they didnt focus much on the functionality aspects of the true purpose of the camers. Setting up the Email forward is very easy as well, thumbs up for that. Instaling the cameras is very easy, great job there.
If you just want to see what your dog is doing durign the day, great camera. If you really want security and to see an emergency, this is not going to meet that need. Everytime it records it's a day late and a dollar short. Other camera's Ive used before had an option that when there is motion it records video going back 5 seconds or 10 seconds prior to the motion. With these after the motion is detected it starts to record but by then the person or car is out of view or the camera just catches a couple frames of their backside.
I wish there was a firmware update to give the option for selecting a timeframe to save video from 5 sec or 10 sec prior to the motion detection. That would make Reolink a 5 start system.
Can’t “Playback” content on battery cameras — can on iOS app
It is nice to be able to see my Reolink cameras on my Mac. However, I cannot view any content recorded on the battery powered cameras’ SD card. I can do this on the iOS app on my phone. I have wasted a lot of time trying to get the customer service team to have a clue about my request with the only suggestion to re-install the app on my Mac. Very disappointed. These are decent cameras but the software could be improved.
Also, while I understand that a battery-powered, solar-recharged camera would have limited power avaialble, I still would like to be able to stream the cameras to my NVR at least some of the time vs. never at all.
