Rythmo
Tap-per-breath rate counter
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Tap once per breath and read the rate. Seven age bands marked in range or out of range. Last 10 readings kept on your device. No account, no tracking.
Rythmo is a tap-per-breath respiratory rate counter.
Watch the chest. Tap once for every breath you see. The first tap is breath one. Rythmo measures the gaps between your taps, takes the median interval, and converts that to breaths per minute. A rate appears from your second tap and sharpens with every tap after it.
For paramedics, nurses, doctors, lifeguards, first aid responders and students.
WHAT IT DOES
Live tap-bpm. The rate comes from the median of your tap intervals, so one mistimed tap does not wreck the number. Intervals that sit far from the median are set aside rather than averaged in.
Confidence indicator. Three levels, Low confidence, Settling and Confident, based on how consistent your taps have been. It reflects tap consistency, not clinical accuracy.
Irregular flag. When the gaps between your taps vary widely, Rythmo says so, because a single median rate does not describe an irregular pattern well.
Reference ranges. Seven age bands are listed at once, each marked in range or out of range against the current rate. There is no grading, no scoring and no interpretation beyond that. The ranges are reproduced from a published Australian ambulance clinical practice guideline, and the full citation sits on the same screen as the table.
Last 10 readings. Each one shows the time, the rate, how long it ran, the tap count and the final confidence. Kept on your device, and you can clear them whenever you want.
Private by design. No account, no sign in, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads. Rythmo makes no network calls and nothing from your readings leaves your device.
Free, with no in-app purchases.
Included for Apple Watch. The watch app runs on its own, with its own measure screen, age bands and history, and it does not need your iPhone nearby.
METHOD
Tap-per-breath counting is described in the peer reviewed literature, beginning with Karlen and colleagues (PLoS One 2014;9(6):e99266) and the RRate app. Rythmo is written from the published description of that method.
DISCLAIMER
Rythmo is a reference and training tool. It reports a rate calculated from your own taps and displays published reference ranges for comparison. It does not diagnose, does not decide treatment, and does not replace your clinical assessment. Confirm every reading before you act on it or document it.
