SaferKid Alert regularly checks to see if your children have installed any of over 200,000 age-inappropriate apps on their devices. If we find an app, we send you an alert. We also let you know what's inappropriate about the app and how to talk to your child about it.

Overall it’s pretty awesome

Please try and fix this…under settings…general…device management All the child would have to do is be curiously browsing through their phones settings which I know many kids most definitely do and they would easily be able to figure out how to “remove management” of the app. There has got to be a way to secure it or make it inaccessible by the child. Please fix. Thank you and I most definitely appreciate the development of an app like this while having a 12 year old daughter who loves social media and her phone more than anything. I have learned my lesson though and definitely won’t be giving my youngest daughter a phone as young as I did the first one! It’s so nerve racking raising kids with today’s technology! Geez I think my parents had it easy!

This is sickening

This app is appalling like other apps like this it ruins my teenage years I have to have the burdens of being spied on every day of my life for all I know this app could be spying on this review this app has kept me from making new friends because if I add a new contact it will send an alert and I am forced to delete it I also am punished if I talk bad about a teacher In the slightest bit teenage years are supposed to be the best years of your life and I just can’t wait for the day that I turn 18 and go to college cause the. I will get the freedom I need but it will be to late and I will already have adult responsibilities my parents got to live in a care free teenage years environment and it’s not right that I have to suffer. I just will never make the same mistake with my kids because I want them to have fun I want them to not hate there life and I want them to have a good relationship with me because I have seen what these apps do and I just am counting down the days till I’m free my teen age years should not be a prison I never did anything wrong . I hope this wasn’t the intent of the app but you trying to make things better has grown into a terrible problem and I hate my life and am counting down the days I look forward to school because that’s when I get to live my life and I go to a very strict school so that’s saying something

Kids will outsmart this in 5 min and make you look stupid

I hate to say it, but this app gives parents a false sense of security and makes them look stupid. I was able to circumvent the app very easily. Just send a test text and quickly delete it from your child’s phone. Presto! It’s not logged. Any child who wanted to evade text message logging could easily prevent this app from capturing the texts. Also on iOS if you cannot block texting then what is the point? (Support confined that the app only blocks 3rd party apps and not native iOS apps. Let that sink in!) Lastly when I went to cancel the subscription on day two after being extremely disappointed, I found that instead of being ready to charge me for three months worth of usage it was going to charge me the full yearly subscription amount. That is basically $200! It feels like a scam. Apple’s screen time is much better than this and it’s free. I am a developer by trade. I followed the installation instructions and it went smoothly. I was testing the app the next morning after the install due to the waiting period described by others. That part would have been acceptable if the app had worked as described.

Developer Response ,

Sorry you found the app confusing.

SaferKid exists primarily to protect children from rape. We built it after studying THOUSANDS of cases where children were the victims of rape, sexual assault and other sex crimes in which phones played a pivotal role.

There are rare edge cases where a child can delete a text and it MIGHT not appear in the service, but, if you actually study the cases where children have been victimized (and we, sadly, have studied THOUSANDS of them), what you're talking about is not an issue.

What actually happens is that adults meet children in real life and attempt to build a relationship with them over time. This now happens over text, outside the view of parents. The MAJORITY of child rape happens this way, and it's not like the child is trying to hide it. The child is the VICTIM and doesn't realize what is happening.

We can appreciate that you didn't have this data, and we'll try to do a better job of making it clear that this is the case for parents in the future.

Also, for what it's worth, the real risk of kids being victimized by strangers they meet on apps is when children get apps that look safe but aren't. SaferKid has our own risk rating based on our research into child rape, sexual assault, bullying (and a lot of other developmental issues), and then the app alerts you and explains why the app is resulting in children getting sexually victimized even though you wouldn't know it from looking at it.

None of these features exist inside of Screen Time, and again, well try to message this better in the future so that people don't find it confusing.
