Sequenza is a new type of sequencer especially designed to assist the composer in its creation work. It gives access to advanced musical techniques as easily as more conventional elements of the musical tradition. Some musical concepts may have intimidating names (microtonality, polymodality, spectralism, polyrhythm, etc.) although they cover exciting realities. While many software don’t handle them, or put them in a distant back room, Sequenza attempts to make these techniques available to everyone, giving access to a rich and modern palette going from the simplest to the most sophisticated needs.
Thanks to the diversity of its writing, editing, processing and generation features, Sequenza is able to produce musical materials of all kinds which can fit easily in either an instrumental work or a process of digital creation. Its proportional score, halfway between a MIDI editor and a classical score, offers a precise, flexible and user-friendly workspace.
Unlike a classical MIDI Sequencer built around a single timeline, Sequenza organizes each session around an unlimited number of timelines and sequences. The session also handles a set of common tracks that each timeline may use entirely or only partially. This original design allows the software to accommodate to the highly variable workflow of the composer.
# Features:
- Pitch: Alignment of pitch to harmonic grids, using chromatic, diatonic, modal or spectral behaviors.
- Microtonality (graphic rendering): Quarter and sixth tones using standard notation conventions.
- Microtonality (sound rendering): Up to cents using one of the Apple instruments, up to 16th tones using any other poly-timbral MIDI device.
- Scales: Large collection of customizable and editable scales including microtonal, non-octaviant, set of notes, etc.
- Rhythm: Fully customizable magnetic grids making the writing of rhythms - whether simple or highly complex - easier than ever.
- Layers: Four layers per stave, allowing the user to filter the musical content during playback or edition, and to assign default graphic properties.
- Selection: Original collection of tools, including random selection, selection by equality or inclusion, and a customizable bank of selection presets.
- Conditional Edition: Filtering palette associated with the Edit menu allowing the user, among others, to copy and paste rhythm independently of notes or notes independently of rhythm.
- Processing: Numerous tools combined with a large bank of presets to manipulate notes and curves (several dozen plugins, from the simple utility to the most creative tool).
- Generation: Algorithmic tools for producing patterns, textures, drones and musical materials of all kinds, up to an original form of additive synthesis.
- Keyboard: Virtual keyboard managing a large bank of chord presets and providing original features to play and record notes and chords from the computer keyboard.
- Structure: Unlimited number of timelines and sequences, comments associated with all of them, customizable and editable meta-event banks (grids, meters, tempo curves, markers).
# Sharing:
- Imports and play MIDI files.
- Exports MIDI files in multitrack format (type 1).
- Exports audio files with high definition support.
- Saves projects as binary or XML files.
- Imports/exports libraries for sharing data between projects.
# Plugins:
- Supports all native Apple plugins and all available AUV3 plugins.
- Supports AUV2 plugins if compatible with an application distributed on the App Store (sandbox).
