ShowRemote: Console, QLab & Lighting Control
At Alpha Shows, we tour full-scale theatrical productions all over Australia. Every show relies on QLab, Lightkey and Yamaha consoles, and over the years we’ve always wished there was a simple way to control them from an iPhone or Apple Watch while walking the venue.
We couldn’t find an app that did exactly what we needed, so we built one!
About the App:
Walk the room while you mix the show.
ShowRemote gives you control of your Yamaha console, QLab and Lightkey from your iPhone and Apple Watch. Check levels from the back of the house, fire the next cue from across the stage, or trigger a lighting look without running back to the control desk.
Console
* Live fader control for any TF-series mixing console, with smooth, natural response that matches the console. Fine adjustment around unity, with a wider sweep toward -∞
* Technically should work with other Yamaha consoles as well but we haven't tested it
* See level changes in real time, including adjustments made on the physical console
* Reorder channels so the ones you use most are always at the top
QLab
* Browse your full cue list (in QLab on a Mac, not just on the phone) with collapsible groups, just like in QLab
* Select any cue, then press GO, or step through cues with Next and Previous
• Stop button to 'panic' (gracefully fade)
* The selected cue stays in sync with QLab, even when it’s changed from the booth
Lightkey
* Create one-tap buttons for any OSC-addressable cue, including fog, blinders, practicals and more
* This section should technically work with any OSC enabled software as you can input any IP, port etc
* Choose Hold mode (active while pressed) or Toggle mode (press once on, press again off) for each button
* Arrange buttons in any order so your most-used controls are always easy to reach
Apple Watch
* Full companion app with GO, Next, Previous, Stop, current cue name, TF faders using the Digital Crown, and Lightkey controls
* Assign any action to the Apple Watch Ultra Action Button for instant control
Designed for live shows
* Connects over your venue’s local Wi-Fi. No cloud services, accounts or internet connection required
* Automatically discovers QLab and Lightkey using Bonjour, with manual connection options for everything else
* Your channel layout, settings and Lightkey buttons are stored on your iPhone and automatically sync to your Apple Watch
ShowRemote isn’t designed to replace your console, nor does it replace QLab's existing apps that do other things. The Yamaha apps are fine too, but nothing on iPhone or Apple Watch to control it (iPad only). ShowRemote lets you take control wherever you need to be, whether that’s at front of house, on stage doing a show or performance yourself, or in the back row of the theatre. This should also replace those crazy expensive hardware devices some performers use on stage for changing/triggering cues.
