ShutterTools is a set of field tools for photographers. Plan the light for your next shoot, then work out exposure, focus and framing on location. Everything is calculated on your phone, so it works offline, with no account to create.
PLAN THE LIGHT
• Golden hour and blue hour for any day, with start and end times for morning and evening
• Sunrise, sunset and day length, shown in the local time of the place you are shooting, even when it is in another time zone
• A sun and moon chart for the whole day: tap or drag across it to see the light, the sun and the moon at any moment
• Compass dial with sun and moon directions that turns with your phone, so you can line them up with the scene in front of you
• Moonrise, moonset, illumination and the next full and new moon
• Milky Way core tonight: when it is best placed, how high it gets and which way to look, with a warning when the moon may wash it out
• Use your current location or save places to plan shoots you have not travelled to yet
EXPOSURE
• Equivalent exposure: trade aperture, shutter speed and ISO without changing brightness
• ND filter: long exposure time for any filter strength, with filter factor, optical density and a countdown timer
• Exposure guide: Sunny 16 and EV starting points for when there is no meter
• Flash guide number: manual flash range, and the aperture for a given distance and power
LENS & FOCUS
• Depth of field: near and far limits of sharpness, with a diagram
• Hyperfocal distance, so you know where to focus for sharpness to infinity
• Field of view: angle of view, equivalent focal length and framing
• Shutter speed guide: slowest hand-held speed and speeds to freeze motion
NIGHT & TIME
• Astro shutter: longest exposure for pin-sharp stars, using the NPF rule and the classic 500 rule
• Timelapse: frames, shooting time, storage and the interval needed to fit an event into your clip
OUTPUT
• Print size: how large a file prints at a given resolution
MADE FOR THE FIELD
• Set your camera format once (from 1-inch and Micro Four Thirds through APS-C and full frame to medium format) and every tool uses it
• Metric or imperial units, 12- or 24-hour clock
• Light and dark themes, with Material You colours from your wallpaper
• Available in English and Czech
Sun and moon times follow NOAA and Meeus algorithms and are accurate to about a minute for the sun and a few minutes for the moon. Terrain and weather still shape the light you actually get, so treat the times as your plan and the scene as the final word.
ShutterTools has no photo editing. It is a planning and calculation companion that stays out of your way while you shoot.
