NEW • Font and size are now dropdowns in the toolbar — change typeface or size without opening the font panel. • Settings (⌘,). Set your default font, size, tab width, wrapping, spell check, line numbers and daily word goal once, and every new window starts that way. • Find from the keyboard: ⌘F opens the find bar, ⌘G and ⇧⌘G step through matches, ⌘E searches for the selection, and a new "In selection" option confines a search or a replace-all to the text you've highlighted. Invalid regular expressions now say what's wrong instead of quietly doing nothing. • Split the editor (⌘) to see two parts of the same file at once, each scrolling independently. • Document map — a bird's-eye view of the whole file beside the editor. Drag it to move around a long document quickly. • Code folding. Collapse an indented block with ⌥⌘←, or use Fold All and Unfold All in the Format menu. • Multiple cursors: ⌥-click to add one, ⌥-drag to select a column. • Brackets and quotes close themselves as you type, and typing the closing one steps over it rather than doubling it. Select text and type a bracket to wrap it. • Toggle Comment (⌘/) comments or uncomments the selected lines in Swift, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, Go, Rust, Java, C and shell scripts. • Print (⌘P), and ⌘+ / ⌘− / ⌘0 for text size. • Tabs get shortcuts (⌥⌘N, ⌥⌘W, ⌃⇥) and remember the file they were saved to, so ⌥⌘S saves straight back to it. • Drop files onto the window to open them. • "New Simplitext Document" now appears in the Services menu of every app, so you can send selected text here from anywhere. • Text encodings: byte-order marks are detected, eight encodings are selectable, and Reopen with Encoding rescues a file that opened as gibberish. Simplitext now refuses to save text an encoding can't represent rather than silently writing something else. • Line endings are detected, shown in the status bar, and convertible between LF, CRLF and CR. • Snippets take placeholders — {{date}}, {{time}}, {{datetime}}, {{year}} — filled in at the moment you insert them. FASTER • Syntax highlighting now works on the part of the file you're looking at, so typing stays smooth in very large documents. • Typing no longer writes to disk on every keystroke, and the status-bar counters are worked out in the background. FIXED • Multiple fixes and improvments REQUIREMENTS Simplitext now runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The AI Writing Assistant requires macOS 26 and Apple Intelligence.

Typewriter Mode — Keep your eyes on one spot as you write. Enable Typewriter Mode to lock the active line at 40% from the top of the screen, so the text flows up as you type rather than your cursor drifting to the bottom. Daily Writing Goals — Set a word count goal and track your progress directly in the status bar. Simplitext remembers how many words you've written today across sessions and resets automatically at midnight. Custom Themes — Build your own color scheme from scratch. The new Theme Editor lets you pick every color — background, text, keywords, strings, comments, and more — and saves your themes alongside the built-in ones. Wikilinks — Type [[Note Name]] anywhere in a plain text or Markdown file to create a link to another note. Links are highlighted automatically, and Cmd+click opens the linked file — or a new document if it doesn't exist yet. New document on launch — Simplitext now opens a blank, unsaved document immediately when you start the app, with no dialogs. Word wrap on by default — New documents open with word wrap enabled.
