The Shadow Run is here: the same 25 puzzles, again, racing the shadow of your own record run. Twelve courses, each with its own theme, from forks to endgames. The first run is calm with no clock. From the second run the shadow glides at your best pace, and when you pass it, you feel it in your hand. A wrong move only costs time: the puzzle goes to the back of the course. Gold, silver and bronze times await, and the pace curve shows you actually getting faster. Matt remembers the puzzles you almost cracked. They show up as your own Almost Run: solve them cleanly and they are yours. And when a puzzle is tough: after two misses you can ask to see the solution, and Matt tells you what the pattern is called and why it works. Learning is never losing.

The Pawn School now has three levels in every lesson: Learn, Practice and Master, with a star for each. After the lesson you can keep training with new exercises, and the hardest ones wait at the top. Nearly three hundred new exercises are in place. And what you got right stays on screen until you have finished reading: nothing disappears until you tap Next. Matt has company: Birk, Otto and Sol from his troop are now opponents at the very gentlest levels, below Matt. Perfect first opponents. The pieces now use shadow instead of light details, the way they should look. The live lobby shows who is waiting in the queue right now and how many have been around in the last few minutes. If you ask for a time control where nobody waits while someone waits in another, you are offered the switch. Games you paste in or share from chess.com now get the deep server analysis, and the review clearly tells you while it is in progress.

Sjakki welcomes you now. The first time you open the app, Matt greets you and asks what you already know. If you know a little, the two of you play a getting-to-know-you game: six positions that get harder when you find the move and easier when you miss. Miss twice and Matt shows you the move without you having to ask. Afterwards he suggests a level to start from, and you choose how much you want to play each day. If you have never played chess before, you go straight to the Pawn School. It takes two minutes, everything can be skipped, and you can see it again from Settings. That is also where you change your daily goal whenever you like. The crown can now be earned from a lesson or a game, not only from the daily puzzle. The daily puzzle reminder now shows up the way it should. Matt dances to the jungle music in Puzzle Storm. The move list shows piece symbols, the game review holds still instead of jumping, and live chess sits at the top of Play.

Matt and his friends are alive now. They breathe, blink, tilt their heads and jump when you get it right. Solve the daily puzzle, finish a lesson or reach a milestone in a session, and Matt springs forward and gives one of his friends a high five. You feel the clap in your hand the moment you see it. Tap one of your own pieces a second time and the dots turn off again. It works everywhere you play. The pieces are back to the newest set, the same ones you see on sjakki.no.

New chess pieces, drawn from scratch for Sjakki. Share a game from chess.com straight into Sjakki and land in the middle of the review. No subscription needed to get a game analysed. Move classifications use the same basis chess.com uses, so the verdicts line up better with what you are used to. The chess clock is symmetric, with a clear End button in the middle. Nicknames now get a friendly note if they are not suitable. Fixed: the review could buzz on your phone, and short games were not analysed.
