It's clear that the developers of this app no longer care about their users. I will explain why. First, I understand that every developer needs to support themselves. Yes, i get it, you need your money! The problem is that these developers decided to monetize their app *overnight*. They did it instantly, without notification. They just pushed an update to everybody one day which permanently locked features that everybody used to have access to. locked them behind an expensive paywall. The developers knew they messed up because they quickly went back and lowered the price of the annual subscription. But here's the thing: they NEVER told users in advance about their plan to monetize. they did not grandfather in any existing users, they did not offer existing users a discount, and they never once communicated to users what their plans were. They pushed all these changes on the user and basically told us to just deal with it. users had no warning of what was going on, and no communication from the developer. Furthermore, the developer reconfigured the app so that it literally refuses to launch unless you are connected to Internet. I assume they do this so the app can display ads. Look, each person can develop their app however they choose, but it's been a while since I have seen something so actively hostile. This is if the main focus of the product was lost, and now they're focus on extracting money from their users.
We hear you, and we’re genuinely sorry for how this rollout felt. You’re right that we didn’t communicate clearly enough around monetization, and that’s on us. Our goal has never been to push users away or make a quick dollar - it’s to keep the app sustainable while continuing to improve it, but we know the transition could have been handled much better.Your feedback is important to us. If you’re open to it, we’d really like to hear what features mattered most to you and how we can earn back your trust. Please reach out to support@sober.com so we can continue the conversation.
