Description

In this barren world of flat design and antialiased text, don't you long for crisp lines and just 16 well-chosen colours? We certainly do. Rustling Broccoli presents a world first on your pocket computer: Solitaire for Workgroups, like the one grandma used to play. Don't get distracted by notifications, ads, or "Dark Mode", just stick to one purpose: putting all the cards in the foundation piles. The only advantage of this game over the real deal original back in the nineties is that you can stick it in your pocket and take it with you.

Featuring:

- a snazzy mouse pointer
- original Installation Wizard
- all the animated card backs you know and love
- certainly no ads
- definitely no tracking, analytics, or any other invasions of privacy
- many cool hidden surprises that will wow you and your grandma

This is the game for you. Download it now. Also, eat your leafy greens.

What’s New

Version 1.5.4

We have been awfully lazy, but finally, here's an update. SOL.EXE turned 2 years old on December 2nd!

* By popular demand! You can choose the card back style! Windows 3.1 asks for its dialog box back!
* This release hopefully fixes a pesky, rare, crash when resuming app! Sorry folks, this was a silly one!
* We also fixed score wonkiness on extremely long-running games.

Just what I was looking for

I just wanted to play solitaire like the old days, so I’m glad to have found this app. It’s exactly what I wanted, and it works exactly as it should, but with an extra bit of whimsy I never expected. There seems to be a genuine love and appreciation for what it’s emulating, which I appreciate.

If I were to make any suggestions I’d only say 1) it’d be nice to be able to choose the card back and 2) somehow make the cards a bit bigger on an iPad (they’re quite tiny on my 12.9 pro).

Regardless, it’s a delightful app, a great homage to the 90s design, and it seems like it might actually genuinely be a labor of love.

Hey Shoulder Pads, thank you for the kind words. SOL.EXE is exactly that – a nostalgic homage to the 90s, a simpler time in personal computing. A few people have asked to be able to set their favourite card back image, so now, after 2 years, here it is. You're right that the iPad version is.. suboptimal. That's probably the next big thing on the TODO list. But first we need to figure out how to program the VCR so we don't miss Friends, then tend to our tamagochi!

Only 1 Issue

It’s a bit annoying that the game is locked in landscape mode but overall still a great app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you! Yes, for the longest time we've intended to give the iPad a bit more special treatment.. the iPhone version is sort of our first-class experience right now 😬 We haven't forgotten about this though – stay tuned.
