Oh Mighty Isis 2000 ,

Not enough levels to justify purchasing yet, but there is the possibility for great potential

The game itself is fairly interesting, a not-so-uniquely-different take on solitaire, but it has the potential of becoming something better.

There are not many levels available, even when purchasing the extensions of the five included packs, 72+ levels it would seem. Although with some puzzle games 72+ levels would be more than enough based on the levels of difficulty (Sequence!), and times to solve those levels, my issue with this game is that even the extreme levels are just too simple. I get that there is no way to please everyone, some complain that a puzzle is too difficult, others complain they are too simple. The developers of the Flow series have been able to create a happy balance in their puzzle packs.

As with many developers of puzzle apps today, using “levels of difficulty” to describe the included packs, the first pack, beginners pack, is far too simple and is there to basically explain the game, so keep in mind that this is a throw-away pack of 12 free puzzles, then another 8, if making the in-app-purchase.

The developer states that all future puzzles and updates are included with the one-time purchase, which I feel is fair and a definite pro to consider purchasing. My issue is, if one takes into account games like the Flow series, which include hundreds of great puzzle packs for free, and a steady supply of updated packs, the Flow series gives incredible first impressions to the puzzler looking for the constant enjoyment of the game. Added to that, the daily puzzles in varying difficulties, I believe that is a great template for all future developers of puzzles.

Will puzzles be updated weekly, monthly, half-yearly? There are so few packs included, with each pack being 20 or less quick puzzles, since this is so new, there is just no way to yet know if it is worth paying for future packs.

For now I give three stars, and hope the potential grows so I can update to a solid five stars.

As a final note, I do believe the developer is on to something finally quirky and interesting enough to be different than the trend to copy what everyone else is doing, so I plan on keeping this game on my phone to see what happens in the future. If the developers continue to build this bigger it will be my pleasure to purchase all future updates. I hope they do not disappoint.

And an additional final note. There are many of us MENSA members who enjoy using our phones for solving puzzles (and a game or ten of chess and backgammon). Since you already separate the levels of difficulty into packs, don’t be afraid to create a pack of diabolical levels. There’s something to be said about throwing one’s phone out of frustration, then rushing to pick it up and try one more time to solve that level.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the really detailed review and nice feedback. I’m glad you like the game and can see some potential. Every puzzle is designed by hand and it takes a long while to get each one with a unique solution and of an appropriate difficulty. My hope is that if there is enough take up it will be worthwhile adding lots more puzzles... that’s my definite intention! Just need a few more purchases to show that the game has legs. It’s also on my list to create a puzzle-a-day feature so watch this space!
