Record, organize and play back audio on a retro reel-to-reel. Scrub the reels, reverse, loop tape, and add echo, reverb, lo-fi and tape wear.
SPULE is a reel-to-reel recorder that turns your iPhone into a classic tape machine. Capture audio snippets, organize them onto virtual cassettes, and relive the tactile charm of vintage recording, with the power and convenience of your iPhone.
SPULE records high-quality audio on the fly and groups your takes onto virtual "cassettes," just like old-school tapes. Each cassette is a collection of your recordings, and its paper label shows the cassette's name.
Everything happens on one screen: functional transport buttons, spinning reels you can touch and turn, and a live level meter and waveform, and an effects section with tactile faders and tiles.
>> FEATURES
- Record high-quality audio instantly
- Organize recordings onto virtual cassettes
- A single-screen reel-to-reel deck with transport buttons and animated reels
- Touch a reel to stop the tape and turn it to scrub: clockwise plays forward, counter-clockwise plays backward
- Double-tap Play for reverse playback
- Hold a reel during playback to pause, release to resume
- Repeat a sample without a gap
- Six effects, set separately for every sample and saved with it:
- Pitch: up to 12 semitones up or down
- Level: evens out quiet and loud passages, great for voice recordings
- Echo: a tape echo with mix, time, feedback, tone, wobble and drive
- Reverb: mix, decay, pre-delay, size and tone
- Lo-fi: bit crushing and sample-rate reduction, plus low and high cut, for the sound of an old sampler or a cheap radio
- Tape: the sound of a worn cassette, with wow, flutter, saturation and hiss
- Lock the effects to avoid accidental fader changes during playback
- Record tape loops of 0.5 to 30 seconds and shape them live with feedback, wobble and tone
- See a waveform of every take
- Stereo LED level meters with peak hold
- Customize cassette labels and colors
- Share recordings with other apps
- Pick your input: built-in mic, wired or Bluetooth headset, USB or Lightning microphone
- Choose recording quality (Low / Medium / High) and format (M4A/AAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF)
- Optionally tag recordings with where they were made
- Optionally sync your cassettes, recordings and effect settings across your devices with iCloud Drive
- Everything stays on your device unless you turn on iCloud Drive. SPULE has no accounts and no tracking
