Plenty of games cast you as an outgoing hero, exploring the wilds with sword in hand - but nobody does it quite like Superbrothers. Stunning art, a haunting soundtrack and poetic storytelling combine to create a magical, mythical mystery that stays with you long after you put it down.
The game does not allow simple things like resting or collecting a mushroom when faced with the the first boss. There is no way to use the shield either. And no way to restore a saved game to drop me in front of this challenge. When reading the instructions it tells you how what to do to beat the boss but the avatar doesn't respond as instructed. So very frustrating. And can't collect more than three mushrooms?!? Come on! I don't want to start OVER again and again because my avatar can't rest or let me walk back to the cottage with seating and a hearth. If it doesn't work as described or instructed I will just give up on the game and warn others that it is even not worth 3.99. Why do mobile game versions come out glitchy...always glitchy and stupid. To bad because the world is becoming mobile..laptops may be obsolete soon. The game has potential but not when there are no options to get un stuck. The game settings also don't work. Tried to go there several times but only get a quick blue banner that disappears as quickly as it appears for a fraction of a second. As I said...very glitchy and unreliable.
I'm upgrading my review to excellent. The first time I tried to play was on my iPhone and it was a disaster as the screen is way too small to see what's going on. Let's say I was a bit frustrated and leave it at that. Anyway, I played today on my iPad and - ta da- S&S is everything I was promised by reviews: artistic and innovative graphics; appealing soundtrack; a challenging game and best of all, a slightly snarky vein of humor that makes this entertainment rather than a battle game. There is a bit of sword action required - which is so not my thing but it works here. In the past I would have avoided the game for that reason but I'm actually having fun with it. Old dog, new tricks. Hmm, will the wonders never cease? As such, it's worth the small price- Highly recommended. Oh, btw, no directions. One must think. Kudos to the creators. (Your minds would be very interesting places to visit)!
