TestGen AV Sync turns an iPhone or iPad into a portable video and audio test-signal source, built on the same pattern-generation engine Drastic Technologies ships in its broadcast products. Point a camera at it, feed it into a capture card, hold it in frame on set, or use it to line up a monitor. The signal is generated on the device in real time — no files, no streaming, no network. WHAT IT DOES • 270 broadcast test patterns — SMPTE and EBU colour bars, PLUGE, luma and chroma ramps, multiburst, zone plates, convergence circles, grids, pixel-resolution charts, gamma strips, HDR clipping and filter charts, and much more. • Sample-accurate A/V sync markers — a phase-coded audio pulse aligned to the video frame, so you can measure lip-sync error end to end through any signal chain. • Frame-accurate timecode burn-in — HH:MM:SS:FF with drop-frame support, date stamp, or UTC. • QR frame data — every frame can carry its frame index, UTC timestamp, frame rate, pattern ID and audio phase as a machine-readable QR code, so an automated test rig can read the delay straight off a recording. • Flash cues — full-screen or edge flashes at a chosen interval for latency and shutter testing. • Multi-pattern output — show two to five different patterns at once in a split-screen layout. • Frame rates from 24 to 60 fps, including 29.97 and 59.94 with correct drop-frame timecode. • HDR output in HLG and PQ, plus Display P3 and Rec.2020 wide-gamut colour on supported devices, with an optional true 16-bit float rendering path for band-free gradients. • Presets — save a complete configuration, and export or import it as JSON to share a setup with the rest of the crew. WHO IT IS FOR Camera operators, DITs, broadcast and post engineers, AV installers, live-event and streaming technicians, QC departments, and anyone who needs a known-good reference signal without carrying a rack-mount generator. FREE AND PRO The free version generates SMPTE BT.709 75% and 100% colour bars, ARIB STD-B28 HD bars, SMPTE RP 219 bars, SMPTE 303M, a 7-step luma staircase, a grid-and-dots chart, a Rec.709 white window, a zone plate, plus full white and full black at up to 30 fps in Rec.709, with all three A/V sync audio signals and full preset support — enough to check a signal path or line up a monitor. TestGen Pro is a single one-time In-App Purchase — not a subscription — that unlocks the remaining 259 test patterns, multi-pattern layouts, the timecode, QR and flash-cue overlays, 50/59.94/60 fps, HDR (HLG and PQ) and wide-gamut output. What's New in This Version: Eight more test patterns in free mode, including 100% colour bars, ARIB STD-B28 HD bars, SMPTE RP 219 bars, SMPTE 303M and a zone plate. Free patterns now listed first so they're easier to find. New startup screens explaining what the app does and how to open Configuration, with a switch on the Advanced page to turn them off. Fixed the upgrade panel closing itself when a Pro pattern was selected.
