Private, on-device AI alt text. Describe once — it embeds in your photo and travels with it to Mastodon, Bluesky, and anywhere alt text is read. Built for everyone.
TigerText writes alt text for your photos — privately, on your device.
Great alt text makes images accessible to people who use screen readers. TigerText uses on-device AI to describe your photos in seconds, then embeds that description right into the image — so it travels with your photo wherever you post it.
***The Developer Recommends this app to run on Pro, Max and Air devices for best performance.***
Everything stays on your phone.
TigerText runs a vision-AI model entirely on-device. Your photos are never uploaded, there's no account to create, no network connection required, and absolutely no tracking, ads, or data collection. What's on your phone stays on your phone — period.
Accurate, editable descriptions.
• AI-generated alt text that recognizes people, pets, scenes, and text in your images
• Read any description aloud to check it
• Edit by typing or dictating — you're always in control of the final words
• Re-generate anytime if you want a fresh take
Alt text that actually travels.
Descriptions are saved as standard image metadata (IPTC), so when you share to Mastodon, Bluesky, and other platforms that read it, your alt text comes along automatically.
See your whole library at a glance.
Browse your photos with badges showing which already have alt text, and stats on your progress — so you can make your entire library accessible.
Built for everyone.
Bold, simple design with full VoiceOver support, large text, and dictation. Designed to be easy whether or not you use assistive features.
Trustworthy by design.
The on-device AI model is verified with a cryptographic integrity check on every install, so you always run the genuine, untampered model.

What's New (v1.0):
The first release of TigerText — private, on-device alt text for your photos.
Fixed a bug where generated text would sometimes appear in Chinese. App may require a one-time language pack download from Apple. No text or images are ever transmitted from the device.

Version 1.1 is shaped by feedback from the blind and low-vision community.
Library improvements:
- Photo thumbnails now announce the date taken and the embedded alt text. No more duplicate or trailing descriptions.
- A new Select mode lets you pick multiple photos right inside the library, with clear VoiceOver announcements for every selection.
Other changes:
- A first-run Tips screen explains how the app works, and is always available from the home toolbar.
- Tapping Share with Description now also saves the description, so nothing is lost.
- The Save Description and Share with Description buttons are clearer about what they do.
- Less chatter in the caption field for VoiceOver users.
- The “Description ready” announcement is more reliable.
Thank you to everyone who wrote in. Keep the feedback coming.
