An exercise in extreme frustration

God forbid you use different emails because you will encounter so much difficulty you’ll want to throw your phone against the wall.

Logging in with a Facebook account that uses a different email than you typically book with locks you in to that email. You’ll never be able to change it or see previous reservations.

Attempting to cancel a reservation only results in an error saying “Bad Request: Purchase is owned by a different patron” even if clicking on a link directly from the email reservation. Horrible user experience and a massive waste of time. Figure it out, guys.

If there was any alternative, I would use it!

I will start by saying the only reason I still have this app is because they have cornered the market and there is literally no alternative to them! They have made a lot of exclusive experiences and restaurants can only be booked through their application. Thereby keeping you from even attempting to go to such events or places unless you use their app or platform! I have attempted to use their app and platform and if it’s a place that’s not frequently booked out it works fine but if you want to go to a place that sought after good luck, you’ll never get in the application in both websites constantly crash because they can’t handle the traffic flow or the amount of people that are trying to get to it. It’s been over 10 minutes since the round of bookings has opened up and still won’t even move next month on the app on the phone for myself. Similar thing happened last month and I reported to customer service they kept telling me for over a week that there was no problem on their end and it must’ve been my Internet connection or improper use of their application implying multiple times that I’m an idiot, without directly stating! Well, this time I have it on video so we’ll see how they get out of it this time. Like I said, worst customer service he’ll ever deal with your life and if there was another way, I would definitely do it.

The app itself is just toooo badly designed

I have to admit that I used the Tock app a lot. Just because some of the restaurants I want to dine in only post their reservation on Tock. However, I’m not sure if it is the reason (some high-end restaurants only use Tock)that made people who manage this app thinking “we don’t have to improve this app”, the app itself is sooooo bad. I mean, from the UR to the return function to lot’s of the details. For example, after I returned from the reservation page for a certain restaurant, I’ll be back at the top of the city’s restaurant list again. Which I have to swipe all the way down to look at the restaurants that below where I was checking.
If there’s another way to made the reservation I’ll definitely delete this app. Pleas improve or change your IT guys.

Corporate Lies?

I don’t want to be a “conspiracy theorist,” but as someone who cares both about quality food and corporate transparency, I noticed a pattern recently in the reviews of this app. I was debating downloading because the “most helpful” reviews are all quite negative, but I wanted to read both sides of the story. If you sort reviews by “most favorable,” you’ll notice a flood of positive reviews on December 6, and then no others more recent than a YEAR ago. There are only 4 5-star reviews that aren’t from December 6! I’m concerned that Tock is doing something in an effort to inflate their (poor) app ratings. This makes me feel like I cannot trust the company, so I will not be using Tock going forward. I wanted to write a review just so anyone else concerned about corporations’ attempts to manipulate us can hopefully see Tock for what it is.

Thanksgiving dinner order

I used this app to order pre-order for Thanksgiving dinner pickup from a restaurant that was specifically listed in their Thanksgiving dinner section. I was allowed to place the order and even received an email confirmation. However on Thanksgiving day when I arrived at the restaurant, it was closed! I was definitely charged for the order that I did not receive. I even received an email the following day thanking me for order. Perhaps the people in charge of facilitating payment should also be in charge of making sure the restaurants listed are actually open! I emailed Tock to file a complaint and received a courtesy note basically saying they are only responsible for providing the technology! Given that there are so many other apps for this service, I would avoid this one!

What’s the point?

All Tock seems to do is tell me everything I might be interested in is sold out for today. I cannot seem to search for a combination of place, date, and time, and searching for a place locks me into just looking at that place for today with no way back to the calendar. I can search for more places, but I’m stuck. I have to quit/kill the app and log in again.

There also seems to be a “back door” into Tock reservations. I went from “nothing available” for one restaurant to “sold out” for the entire month when the reservations were opened. I understand popularity, but… really? 100% sold out in less than 5 seconds? That’s gotta be some OTHER automated service feeding Tock, which makes Tock a useless middleman.

Don’t bother. Worthless app

App does not update reservation availability in real time. French Laundry opens availability at 10AM a few months before. App took until 10:05 AM to refresh with availability. Both me and my wife trying to get reservations on the app at same time. By 10:05 when the calendar finally showed the months available all of our 3 dates were sold out. Then some other “chase pay” option appeared and when selected said “someone else has selected that”. Frustrating, not updated in real time and completed worthless for getting reservations at hard to get in restaurants. Really sours the entire experience and makes me think less of French laundry for choosing this platform. They should remove this app until it can update itself up to the second.

Restaurants beware

Restaurants have a hard time already with Covid and now this piece of useless application comes along and I hope the restaurants survive. It doesn’t list all of the restaurants. When you look at the map, there are restaurants that use Tok that are missing. When you try to order something, it just doesn’t work.
I had to cancel many orders as I can’t seem to get it to work. Often I have to reserve a time to look at the menu. It is not user friendly and Imigine most restaurants don’t even know the number of customers they are losing because this real piece of junk if an application. Absolutely a terrible application to order food from. Somebody really need to tell the restaurants how impossible this application is.

Tock ruined my marriage

Yes. That happened. Let’s see, it all began last Wednesday. My wife and I had been going through a rough patch, but nothing out of the ordinary. I decided to surprise her with a dinner reservation to one of the nicest restaurants in Chicago (Maggianos). However, when we got there, not only was there no reservation, the restaurant location had been replaced with a Potbelly. My wife was furious and I was humiliated. She said this was “classic Marc” and that she needed some time. Well, I found out yesterday that she is divorcing me. Anyway, that’s probably not all on Tock. But when I went to review it, I saw many new 5 star reviews. That is concerning. As an actuary, accurate data is very important to me. This cannot stand….

Taking my reservation with my aunt elsewhere

My aunt’s in town this weekend so I decided to find a reservation somewhere for Saturday night. Went to download a few reservation apps (this, Resy, Opentable…) to see what I could find.

Instead of a quality restaurant choice, what I found in downloading the Tock app was a clear conspiracy to rate an otherwise awful app with quality reviews. The app doesn’t let me cancel reservations. I can live with that. What I can’t live with is using an app that doesn’t allow candid and real-world ratings and instead allows for bizarre influxes of five-star reviews that all take place on a day that doesn’t even correlate with a software update.
