Thank you to the Developer!

This quickly became the first app I went to in the morning and I would eagerly look for the task of the day. Unlike some reviews, I think it is okay to have days where the task seems to yield little or no items to toss or it seems light because the concept is to simplify decluttering by one step a day so that we continue to declutter/clean and not give up. Some days the number of items tossed was zero but going through that space led to the space being organized and cleaned so having that task in the list helped. Spaces have started to clear up and things that I couldn’t get to it didn’t think of are being tossed/ organized. Normally decluttering would be stressful and some of the shows make it even more stressful. But now It makes me smile whenever I think of decluttering because I am using this app which makes it so manageable.
One suggestion would be to enable sharing the task.

Helpful app for motivation

Nice free app that gives a task per day to accomplish. Big help for people who feel overwhelmed getting started in downsizing. Sometimes those tasks are easy & quick (jackets) and sometimes they are a little more in-depth (medicine cabinet, electrical cords) but this helps you feel like you’ve got something accomplished not matter how small the task is. Looking forward to completing the cycle of tasks so I can customize the tasks. 👍🏽 Two downsides 1) if you do not mark it as done the task sits in your queue. When you come back the next day to get a new one the old one is still hanging and when you finally close it out by hitting “done” the app says to come back tomorrow for a new task (!!) So you have to wait another 24 hours for a new task. It would be nice to be able to access the next task. Not a dealbreaker though. 2) if motivated, it would be nice to be able to access the next task.
UPDATE: finally got to the end of the tasks and was able to only add one customized task. Looked forward to repeating the tasks (amazing how stuff piles up again) but the app CRASHED on me. I had to delete it and am starting over again.

Helpful

When I get stuck it's nice to have one simple task to only focus on, I can't look at tomorrows, I can't redo. It forces me to keep it Simple. I would love there to be more things to use it with lol looking at past things or idk more things to do. But I think I would stop using the app because it would become overwhelming. That's why I use an app for a month and delete and never use it again. This app has stayed so long on my phone with decent continuous useage because I only do one thing on it and I can forget about it and come back and do one simple thing I really like it when your overwhelmed and sad and stressed

Unique app for those without motivation

I love this app. It’s intended for those who truly don’t have motivation and can only muster up energy for one task a day. I like that aspect. Slow and steady wins the race right? By the end of the year I should have a nicely decluttered home with little daily effort. Not everyone is Marie Kondo and wants to create a Pinterest worthy home overnight. The only suggestion I have is to make it optional to do more than 1. Yes most days that’s all I can handle. But for the rare days that I am feeling extra ambitious I wish I could scroll my through the categories. And please don’t make it so that a task auto disappears after skipping it 3 times. It doesn’t always mean the task will always be irrelevant. It’s just not possible on the day. For example, there’s severe thunderstorms outside right now, so tossing items from my car is not an option today (no garage).
Update: I deleted all my progress and kept force closing. Had to reinstall. Lost all progress. Downgraded to 3 stars because of this.

Amazingly simple & effective app!

Toss is a wonderful app for procrastinators and sentimental packrats! It cuts through the excuse of “no time” because the tasks are quick and easy. It helps prevent being overwhelmed by suggesting places to start. And rewards the effort by tracking the tossed items across the various categories so that we see the results of even 10-15 minutes a day. When done consistently over time it makes a big impact and creates good habits. I wound up sorting through things I’d never have thought of like old perfumes. It becomes like a reverse treasure hunt—seeking out what can be tossed or donated. My two suggestions would be to perhaps create a separate page that lists the Decluttering tips for reference and maybe some award banners for hitting milestones like 50, 100, 200 items tossed to keep up motivation. Overall great app!

Not without merit, but fails in accessibility

Toss has merit and can remind you about areas that slip your mind. It’s also been incredibly inaccessible and frustrating as someone with intense chronic fatigue, who could really use bite-sized tasks. Some tasks are far larger than others, e.g. declutter the entire sideboard vs. declutter the car glovebox, and I had to reset the app six times before it gave me a task I could do with my current energy level. Why? A hard daily limit on skipping suggestions. It kept suggesting very large tasks that I didn’t have the energy for, or ones I didn’t currently need to do but didn’t want to delete. Only being allowed to skip three suggestions quickly turns into days with nothing getting done, unless you want to reset your progress. An accessibility option to turn on unlimited skips would be helpful for the disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent, but seems unlikely.

How do you eat an elephant?

Like many, I get paralyzed when I think of trying to declutter and organize my house. I have gotten more done in a week of having this so than I have in months of procrastinating.

The app gives you one manageable assignment per day. One example: toss or give away any coats you haven’t worn in 4 years. If you don’t like the task you can skip it and it will give you up to 2 other options.

For anyone who hasn’t heard the “how do you eat an elephant” question, the answer is “one bite at a time.” This is a perfect one bite at a time all.

Loved it while it worked.

I loved this app! I have a few ways I’d like to see it improved, though.
1. Let me do more than one task a day if I want.
2. More tasks. I got to the end of the list and could customize, and then it gave me a list of suggestions. If you have suggestions, put them in the rotation with the other tasks! If you need ideas, ask someone or do some research. There could easily be 365 tasks. Clearly, there are far fewer because I’ve used it for about 6 weeks and reached the end.
3. Let me skip/delete as many as I want to get to a task that applies. The reason I have the app is to make progress. I can’t do that if it says, ‘sorry, come Back tomorrow’ when I’m here now!!!
I tried to open it numerous times today and it just crashes. 😢

I really like this app!

I look forward to seeing what my task is for each day, it’s like a scavenger hunt. I used it for a few days, then skipped all of my possibilities one day and started over. I would love to be able to see the three possible choices and then choose one. Once you have skipped a possible cleaning task, you can’t go back to it.
I would also like to see the master list of tasks. I keep getting sock drawer and books (books are life!), and I want to get to closets and garage, if those options exist…

Old fashioned and not as customizable as I wanted

The way the app seems to work is that it gives you an area of the house to work in and you get rid of items from that area. Sounds great right? Well... some of the areas are super old fashioned and many of them don’t relate to millennial living (people under 37). They’re like “clean out your hutch/sideboard of old candlesticks”—what is this, 1870? You can skip around to different tasks but it doesn’t look like there is a “skip back” function and also you can only skip three per day—what if none of them are things you are trying to get rid of? Not very functional. I wanted something like an app that just let me catalogue my accomplishments in what I got rid of—not one that narrowed the possibilities to only three choices.
