Honestly, I like this app. Being able to scroll through the casts/creatives behind the various movies has been a fun way to find other films to watch or identify movies I have already seen. My issues are two:
1) I would like to be a premium member, but find the price to be too much. In doing some research I found that they used to offer a locked in premium rate of $30 for a year, and that seems more correct to me for an app that only does tracking. The current rates are basically the cost of a streaming service, which seems too high to me.
2) The app works off of TMDB which is less accurate than IMDB when it comes to more niche shows/movies. Sometimes you have to wait a while before a new season/movie gets added to Trakt so that you can mark it as watched (The Last Drive in with Joe Bob Briggs being a frequent offender on this count).
Hopefully they can rectify both issues and become a true 5* experience.
Appreciate The Database But ….
This is just an overly complex and busy GUI. I went to TrakT via browser and it was worse. Very powerful features but for the casual user not well thought out. Not easy on the eyes either. Too much information stuffed on a screen with pics and/or tiny fonts highlighted with too much Bold on website and App.
It would enhance the App to have the ability to select a font, size and color. It's really hard on the eyes in the Calendar mode the way it's done now.
The 3rd party app TVST is much simpler with fonts that don't make you go cross eyed. It does not include movies in the calendar but I can get that elsewhere.
Just Watch is another good example of an App that helps list and sort in a simple but practical manner. I need TrakT's database but it's IOS app and website are not for me.
Recently I lost the ability to add things through the TVST app because TrakT now requires a subscription for a Watchlist over a 100 entries. No one bothered to inform me of this change which does not speak well of TrakT or my app.
I don't have an issue with a company that requires me to pay for services (VIP for the Watchlist I need) however the price seems steep for that function alone. The comments on this subject on their website echo that sentiment. Nevertheless, unless I find a suitable replacement, I will stay put for now. But I am seriously looking.
Solid Movie Tracker
I'm not sure what other tracking apps offer but this one works really well. It can be slow at times with the search engine but overall solid app! It'll track your shows, episodes within shows, movies, and you can create watchlists or record which dvds you own. Very handy
