Updating this from "doesn't work"
Downloaded this previously on an older computer running Monterey and couldn't get it to work. Now I'm on a new Mac running Sonoma and works just as nice as a paid Ai UI service I use, plus it's native, and faster, so that's nice. There are limitations like with any Ai upscaler. If the details aren't there it can't magically create them, but for incremental improvements it works well. Just make sure your file is in RGB. This probably isn't an issue for many users but I use CMYK alot and just have to make sure I don't convert prior to upscaling, otherwise the resuls aren't great. But that seems to be the case with any upscaler.

Ai images using Upscayl
I bought the app today. I was able to download it, choose a folder, then drag images into the interface. On a photo it works better than an Ai image. I'm using a text to image program called Imagen and wanted to be able to bring my Ai images up to print a bit better.
The Upscayl app doesn't work well for Ai. The softening of the image, the blurring looks worse when it's used. Adjusted the interface a bit, but still unhappy with my text to image images. You can tweak the images in photoshop just as well or better using (Levels) I can see why Upscayl has only a few good reviews. It's not for me. $12 bucks of advice.

Hi, different models act differently on different images. It most definitely works for images generated by AI. Most of Upscayl users are Midjourney users.
On YouTube you can find reviews for Upscayl, where they test it on AI images and I think that would give you a better idea.
