Vermis is a native iOS port of Liero — the 1998 DOS classic that inspired an entire genre of worm-artillery combat games, faithfully continued here rather than reimagined from scratch.
DIG. AIM. DETONATE.
Every inch of the battlefield is destructible. Tunnel through dirt with the Dig button, blast new paths with rockets, or drop a mine and lure your opponent into it. No two matches play out on the same terrain twice.
LOCAL MULTIPLAYER, NO INTERNET REQUIRED
Play head-to-head against a friend over Bluetooth or WiFi — no account, no server, no internet connection needed. Just two phones in the same room.
SINGLE PLAYER, TWO WAYS TO LOSE
Practice against the AI on Easy, or step up to Hard for a genuinely tough opponent that plans several moves ahead rather than just charging at you.
A REAL TOUCH CONTROL SCHEME
Built from scratch for touch — not a keyboard scheme with a d-pad bolted on. Jump, Fire, Dig, and Rope are each their own dedicated button, laid out for how your thumbs actually reach a phone screen.
AIRPLAY SUPPORT
Connect to a TV or external display and the match renders full-screen there while your phone stays focused on your own worm — an overview everyone in the room can watch.
FOR FANS OF THE ORIGINAL
Vermis renders every menu and HUD element in Liero's own actual bitmap font and sprite art — not a modern UI imitating a retro game, the real thing. Weapon names, sounds, and the classic worm physics are all pulled from the original 1998 data files.
GAME CENTER
Track your career kills and wins across matches, and unlock achievements for milestones like your first kill, your first win, or beating the Hard AI.
Vermis is free, with no in-app purchases, ads, or accounts of any kind.
Liero was created by Joosa Riekkinen. Vermis is built on OpenLiero, an open-source continuation of the original engine.
