Navigate and explore the world

View

Apple Maps has always helped you navigate the world. With its latest update, it’s faster and more useful than ever. Here’s a quick tour.

Navigation that’s a step ahead

Traffic lights displayed along your route help indicate just when to turn.

When you’re driving, Lane Guidance helps you get into the correct lane well before you need to turn or enter an elevated road. And Maps now lets you know when you’re approaching speed cameras and red‑light cameras—and pinpoints them on your map.

Find the best way to bike

See your route’s elevation change and any busy roads along the way.

Bicycle-friendly directions will route you along bike lanes and less congested roads. Maps even takes elevation into account, so you’ll know if there are steep hills or whether you’ll need to carry your bike up stairs. Custom cycling voice guidance and a rich experience on Apple Watch makes navigating with a glance easy.

Get expert guidance

Apple Maps Guides are packed with insider tips from Lonely Planet and others in the know.

Created by Apple Maps editors and trusted brands like Lonely Planet, Time Out, The Infatuation, and Complex, Guides help you find the best places to eat, shop, hike, wander, and explore in your favorite cities. Save your go-to Guides, or create your own to share with friends and family.

Plan your trip on public transit

Is it faster to take the subway or a bus? Maps helps you pick the most efficient option using real-time public-transit data. See live departure and arrival times, the current location of a bus or train, and up-to-the-minute info on outages and delays.

Real-time transit is available in many cities around the world, including the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore.

Take a look around

Take a stroll past San Francisco’s Ferry Building with the Look Around feature.

In select cities, use Look Around to view a location with interactive street-level imagery. Hi-res 3D photography with smooth and seamless transitions makes you feel like you’re there on the street.

Look Around is currently available in Boston, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, D.C., as well as on Oahu, with more locations to come.

Keep your location data private

Maps does all this without compromising your privacy. Personalized alerts letting you know when it’s time to leave for your next appointment are created using data on your device. And the data that is sent to Maps while you use the app—such as search terms, navigation routing, and traffic information—is associated with random identifiers instead of your Apple ID.
