Monsters everywhere! But as a talented Pokémon GO trainer, you’re equipped to deal with the elusive critters. Whether you’re a total rookie or a returning fan, build out your Pokédex with these tips:
1. Sync up
First things first: Pokémon GO players walk around a lot, so make sure you’re getting credit for all that footwork. Head into the game’s settings and turn on Adventure Sync to track your steps. It even works when your iPhone is in your pocket!

2. Hone your pitch
Having trouble tossing Poké Balls? Try turning off augmented reality to steady the view and use berries to soften up tough Pokémon. Aim for the center of the circle; the smaller it is, the better, as you’ll have an increased chance of capturing a creature with a “Great” or “Excellent” throw. And always throw curveballs by rotating the ball before you toss it: Not only does it look cool, you’ll gain some extra XP for effort!
3. Keep your streak
For extra items—and more experience points—make sure to catch a Pokémon and spin one PokéStop every day. Each consecutive gain earns you more points and a huge payoff on your seventh daily bonus.

4. Balance your backpack
Transferring Pokémon is a great way to keep your storage clean and gain some extra candy, but try keeping at least one of each species. A decent mix comes in handy for battles or leaving at Gyms, plus you can always evolve a benched Pokémon for added experience points.
5. Time your Lucky Eggs
Got a Lucky Egg handy? You’ll receive double experience for 30 minutes, making this one of the fastest ways to level up! Wait until your backpack is full, then activate the egg and use up candy to evolve dozens of Pokémon in one go. Eggs are also perfect for Community Days or other events when the world is crawling with critters.
